DWC Root Slime Cure aka How to Breed Beneficial Microbes

FYI. Bleach does NOT kill mold. H2o2 will but needed concentrations would be he'll on your roots. Mold removal companies use ozone. I would advice you to treat your entire grow area once plants are harvested. You can rent an ozone generator from some tool rental places. It will kill ALL living things in your room and even chew up rubber at really high levels.

It is effective and easy but take precautions, ozone is lethal at treatment levels.

It works amazing though. My buddies sailboat was moldy and musty. Two ozone treatments later there was NO smell at all. Works great in smoker cars as well.

I got some ancient forest and my last batch of tea was exactly as the op. I didn't get any foaming this time while brewing. Weird. But it smelled great so I used it. I noticed in 12 hours of being in with the plants I had a little foam around bucket/waterline. Another 12 hours and the foam doubled. Not too foamy, just can tell its foam of some sort? I used exactly 1 cup per gallon.

After my 2nd h202 run (this time with 29%) I really have white roots! Plants drooped but bounced back quickly. I can't wait to see what the next few days bring!

Im also doing soothing different this go round. I am taking advise I got a few pages back and straining my dead roots out and mixing mutes/ phing in another bucket. Then dropping the plants back in. Seems to be easy and less stressful on them.

I know aquashield and zho is most cost effective. But what is the most diverse product to begin with? Say if you couldn't make an order.

What about the guys running subculture b/m? Any of you guys got any root shots or feedback?

You have to brew it in tea. Don't just toss the ingredients in the res. You have to brew for 48 hours. Also you need to dump your water and clean first. Scrape out all the goo and spray your roots down over a bucket. The tea isn't a magic cure it's a preventative.

Heisenberg,,, i was wondering if the brewed tea will cause a dramatic drop in ph??? About 3 nights ago i did a (flower)res change,,, added new nutes and tea and then ph'ed to 5.8... The following morning i checked the ph again and my meter read 4.3... I even went with using my standby meter and it read the same... I was wondering if the tea would contribute to this although this has never happened before... My girls are all doing great and their roots couldnt be better... Im puzzled and stumped because the only difference was the additional 12 girls i added to the system... Right now i have 48 chicks being fed from an 18 gal. res... Nutrients and tea amount are always in the ballpark of the previous res changes but on this occasion im gettin a serious drop in ph... what could be the cause of this??? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

The bennies should not cause PH change if there is nothing for the enzymes to break down. There will always be some root exudes and some old root material to decompose, but this doesn't cause a swift PH swing. If you recently moved some plants in perhaps their roots were damaged. It doesn't take all that many broken roots floating around to effect PH.

So the bennies will eventually correct any damage and broken off roots??? Do you think i should clean out the res and start with fresh nutes and tea or wait it out???

Small update-

After the 2nd run of h202 (at correct doses) things are actually looking much better. I don't know who i was kidding when I thought swapping buckets out with fresh water and a half assed root rince would do the trick. Boy was I wrong. IMO don't waste your time if you can't clean them throughly and sanitize with correct dose of h202. I am finally swing some nice new roots forming. There going slower than id like but atleast there forming. After a few days, I still have white roots (all the way down to the core and up the main root mass to the net pot). I started low in ppms trying not to over feed. As I search for the equilibrium, im getting a ph rise everyday. I hope adding ph down daily isn't killing too many bennies. Im finally up to full strength nutes and hope to get a buffer soon!

Thanks again Heis!

That's why DWC growers have moved away from top drip. Get rid of it and just recirculate lower on your buckets. You can probably just spray some bleach water on your rocks without much worry. You can mist with H202 or fungicide as well. Take as many of the rocks up as you can and wash them. Get a dehumidifier and lower your humidity within 50-60%. Without pics its hard to say how extreme you problem is or if it even is the problem.
This is helpful, thank you. I will spray the net pots down with some anti-PM stuff I have before I transfer to my DWC buckets. Not sure how big of a problem mold is to plants though. Haven't been able to find anything on the harm that it causes.

I love this tea.
Heisenburg,
Thank you again for posting this. My DWC mothers have never been happier, and I now use it on my flood tables. I defeated the slime in DWC and use it on my flood tables the first 3 weeks of flower. Never had a slime problem in ebb and flow but i noticed explosive root growth and no longer see the need for roots accelerator in my nutrient program. I use coco mats on the tables and the root mass underneath is very happy and healthy. You are an asset to the roll it up community.

The way i understood it was 1gal of tea to every 10 gal for inoculation and 1cup for every 10 gal every three days

I think that may be a little high hellraizer. If you add one cup per gallon for inoculation then you should only add about 10 cups or a little more than 1/2 gallon per 10 gallons.

For a 25 gallon rez you should add 1.5 gallons initially. Then probably add 3 cups every three days.

I also wondered if there is some dillution rate when dealing with higher capacity reservoirs. I put 3 gallons in my 50 gallon rez..thats allot of tea. Its like a god damn tea party in my basement :)

Really it just depends on if you are fighting slime or not...

if slime is active, use around 1cup per 1gal. to inoculate. top off with dosage below every 3 days.
if no slime is present, and you just want to use the bennies, use less. 1cup per 10gal. for maintenance. top off with this dosage every 3 days.

make sure you brew for 48 hours!!! it may or may not foam up depending on your ingredients and environment.

The way I have been dosing my flood and drain is simple. I pour whatever I have left after 10 days in the fridge in the reservoirs! I brew 2.5 gallons or so, use what ever I need to maintain my dwc, and at the end of 10 days whatever is left gets divided into my flood and drain rezs. Than I brew a new batch and repeat.

We have Subculture-B/M, Great White, Aquashield, an airstone and a 5 gallon bucket. How would you go about brewing this one up? Should I go by the directions on the backs of them? Or use the calculations similar to Heisenbergs original post. I just cant find ancient forest or ZHO powder ANYWHERE.
