I have 6 plants 10 days into bloom going in a 120 gallon rdwc system I have been using the Heisenburg method for a month. However, my plants were so big to begin with that I could not do the sterilizing that is recommended. My roots are all brown and the last two times I have added the tea I get white foam just like I get when I make my 15 gallons of tea. Has anyone experienced the foam after adding the tea to their res? Any advice on what I should do would be highly appreciated!

Hey Heisenberg thank you for wealth of information! I have been using your tea for a month and for the last 2 weeks every time I add a new batch I get a white foam like I do when I brew the tea is that normal or is it the bad guys eating leftover molasses or what? Also my roots are covered in brown stuff and I think it is root rot. However, the plants are to big to pull out I can only see the top roots and they are covered in brown stuff. But the plants seem to not be wilting. OMG I so wish you could come to my house and fix my RDWC issues! Should I do a fresh water run with H202 or should I just stick with what I have going on?

My RDWC is 120 gallons and I add 15 gallons of tea every week! I have 6 plants going.

Hi, about the foaming..the only time I've ever had foaming in my res is when I've added any type of food that can be eaten. I'm thinking that there is still leftover food in your tea that bacteria are eating..which is not good. How long are you brewing and at what temp? Is there enough oxygen in your brew bucket? How much molasses are you adding? Is there any type of food product in the other ingredients that you are adding?

Also, for your res, if your plants are doing fine and not wilting or showing any kind of weird issues I would just stick with the tea and not screw with a good plant. As long as you are seeing new white roots grow out of the brown you are good. However, if you are having problems and cannot clean everything out I would run a hydrogen peroxide solution to kill everything in that res..drain it all out a few times then run tea without anything else for a day or half a day and then add your nutes in. Also, make sure that there is plenty of oxygen in your res..this is important. :)

The last few brews have had a clear gel that is caught by the strainer when the tea is finished. It is the totally transparent and looks like jelly. It doesn't appear to effect the tea and rinses off the strainer very easily. My question is what is this strange gel like substance? Has anyone else experienced this in their brew?

Also did I read that Heisenberg no longer uses the tea as maintenance?

What Does adding the zho last hours do?
I use Hydroguard and kinda unsure about measurement. Also the zho I got last time did not mix well but this zho I got now mixes fine. So I wonder if the last container was bad? As I've been using the tea recipe for months now and root problem seems at bay but not cured at all. Could the disease be inside the plant? Does it take that long to totally expel the disease? I use cns17 grow, pro-tec silicon, ph down, de-chlorinated water. Temps are 68-72.

The ZHO question is discussed and clarified by Heisenberg on page 147
Hydroguard and aquashield are the same product made by same company exact measurements are on page 1 post 1
Page 56 has all ingredients of tea and their equal IE AF+GW= As+zho
I cant remember what fer page but yes, zho can and does go bad...1 year from date on package (good luck finding the date as I have yet to see a date on 2 separate zho purchases)
The disease is not only inside the plant but the spores are everywhere and lay dormant for eternity (this is brought up about every 10 pages or so through out the thread)
Make sure there are no "organics" in your nutes pg 8,pg 10, 13, 19-20,
make sure you have enough d.o.( air) to support roots AND bacteria pg 16
page 20 for exact measurements on zho
pg 21 for best res conditions...you are doing something wrong (months seems a bit long to win against slime however it took me about 6 weeks because I had it bad for a month before I even treatred it)
Also I cant remember the page but H has said(several times) that sometimes it is to late and plants will die from the disease

Ok, so I have used this tea before and it worked just fine. This time though, I think Ive messed up. So here is what happened...I was using running my ebb gro buckets and everything was just fine until my return switch that dumps all the water back to the reservoir stopped working and the water sat in the buckets for 5 days without my knowledge. It wasn't until I was about to transfer them to my undercurrent dwc system that I noticed it and all of my roots developed a clear film and they all sort of stuck together like they had glue on them. I transferred anyway and applied the tea as stated. After the first inoculation everything seemed to be ok but when I went to top off the tea after 3 days I noticed patches of clear snot stuck to my roots at different locations around the bucket. I thought that this may not be normal so I back tracked everything that I did to see what could be wrong and I noticed that my ZHO powder was outdated. Wow!...Could out dated ZHO powder cause problems or is the tea working just fine? My girls still are green and healthy looking and I have white fish scaly looking roots coming out the bottoms but I am paranoid about this snot on the roots. For example, the roots are not slimy but they still have black patches at the base but I do not see that thick film covering them like I did before I transferred. This is different. They look like someone hacked up a filmy cough and spat on the roots on each side of the net pot.,..but when I lift the net pot up in the air, there are white roots at the bottom but the top looks blackish brownish still...please guide me in the right direction. Thanks!!

I had a really bad case of root rot about two months ago (I know this is a thread for slimers but I had to add my 2 cents) and started using this recipe hoping that it would fix my issue and my roots are finally looking like they are supposed too! I am now into my third week of bloom and feel confident that I am going to pull out of this with a decent crop. Thank you Heisenberg and all of those that have posted to this discussion. However, my method to the madness has been as follows:

I run a Recirculating Deep Water Culture system and I follow Hygrohybrid.com and his method of RDWC. My system uses approximately 120 gallons so for my tea I make 10 gallons. Recipe = I use 10 gallons of R.O. water, 10 handfuls of Ancient Forest put into a nylon stocking, 4 airstones connected with rubber bands to the stocking full of Ancient Forrest, 5 tablespoons of molasses, 2 teaspoons of Great White, 4 teaspoons of ZHO powder,10 ml's of Roots Excellerator, and 200 ml's of Aqua Shield or Hydroguard. I brew it for 48 hours and then I add all of the tea except the very bottom because it has larger particles of I don't know what maybe molasses or something. When I first started out I poured 2 cups of the tea over the clay balls/hydroton that I use as my medium. I change my water out every 7 to 10 days and that is when I add my tea. I have also added a whole batch here and there to the water about mid week. My roots are about the size of a 15 gallon bucket and are almost pure white. I can't lift them up because they are so big so I cannot look at the bottom of the roots to tell how white they are. I feed with House and Garden's Aqua Flakes A & B and I run their whole line of other additives at half strength and I also add 1 ml per gallon of Calimagic. My ppm's start out at 150 and I raise it 50 ppm's every week. I am sitting at about 500 ppm's right now. With my city water I and the House and Garden products I don't ever have to ph my water. My ph rides between 5.8 and 6.3. Hope this helps!

Just stick to it and the tea will most likely eat all of that bad stuff! As for the ZHO being out dated I would not worry about it, your bennies are fine. How big are the plants you are referring too? How big are the roots? What medium? What nutrients do you use? What are your ppm's? What size reservoir? How many gallons of water do you use? What is the temperature of the water? You have an under current dwc system is it dwc or recirculating dwc/rdwc?

thanks for that info. now obviously making the brew in distilled water but is it not going to work if im using aged tap water in my buckets?

I made a batch of tea a few days ago and this has saved my whole grow I do have a question though.

When my roots come back 100% should I still add one cup per gallon every Rez change and then just do one cup every week?

You are correct, you should be doing this regularly to prevent further slime outbreaks. :)
