Does anyone have a decent COB build for around $150?

Oh haha that was my one guess, but I didn't know he sent out packages to fans! I figured who goes to the post office enough to make it sound like such a frequent casual event, it must not be that. :eyesmoke:
rofl. nah man, he owns cobkits.com, you were talking to the man himself! lol. I was calling us his fans, which im sure many are. He's sending packages to customers, lol

What's so bad about Roleadro?

It looks like the cheapest tastyled is the T1-V196 which is $185. It's got one emitter one it, but I guess this should be enough for half my 2x4x5 tent right?

It's weird their landing page shows a light with 2 emitters on it, but I can't seem to find any 2 emitter lights listed...
Roleandro is not effective. It uses cheap Chinese COBs with bad PPFD output and I believe it's red?

hey gimme a link to the model roleadro you have and we'll design around that
I have a 300w normal led roleadro right now. I'm wanting to get a second light, I was considering the roleadro 400w cob, cause cobs seem like they're the place to be. The lights only $100, but I haven't bought it yet.

If it's just the chips that are bad but the other bits are good, would buying one just to immediately upgrade it possibly be worth it?

Edit - no links cause I just made this account, it's not letting me post em

Edit 2- is liking posts something that comes with an older account as well?

I'm not doing another edit. I found the roleadro 400w cob (just search amazon for that, I can't link) by searching for cobs, prime-able, cheap, and good reviews. Full spectrum anf 4.2/5 stars with 71 reviews, seemed like it had the most good ratings and was surprisingly cheap

It's hard to beat the Bridgelux EB strips for value right now. Bridgelux BXEB-L0560Z-35E2000-C-A3 is the part number of the 3500K colour temp at 560mm long, which is normally a good choice. They are super easy to connect... just need to make a frame from aluminium angle and that is actually the hardest part comparatively.

Looks like digi-key is sold out idk how much I trust these other sites I'm finding... don't understand what is included either, do these strips just need a power source And something you can mount them on, aluminum angle? What kind of connector do they have?

Normally Arrow or Verical sells them cheapest. All you get is the strip with a simple push in connector. You will need some wire (16awg should be fine) and a suitable driver. Most folks here use meanwell HLG series.

On the whole this type of build can come in under $1 per Watt.

They're not COBs though, do they generate much heat? What kind of cooling do they need? Are they as efficient as cobs and have as good of a spectrum?

What drew me to the cobs were how efficient they're supposed to be. Seems like they're the hot thing right now, due to them being the best possible type of light. This model strip can compete?

The 2 emitter lamp is now a 3 emitter lamp (T2-V362)... cheaper than the 2 emitter lamp was. The T1-V196 would flower half that space but it is a bit on the light side... probably similar output to the 400 (200w) Roleadro. If you're wanting to put something nice in there for under $200 DIY is the only option.

I'm fine with diy, I just need help picking my parts, and then I can probably figure out how to get an together from YouTube videos

I have no idea what I'm doing with these lights, but I've built quite a few computers before, so I'm familiar with thermal paste and heatsinks and being careful with delicate parts. And I think I can figure out how to get a frame together but any suggestions there would also be more then welcome!

Trust me dude, these can compete. I run both COBs and strips and in many ways I prefer the strips. Simply build a frame out of aluminium angle and that will act as your heatsink. You can't beat it for value. Honestly I have done a fair bit of reading (nerd here) and this is the best bang for the buck right now. Verical currently has them for $6.50 each :)

It's a normal led, not a cob. It's got small diodes, model HY-G08-60x5W-W . 60x5w diodes
ok looks like this

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HI3AFYM/ref=twister_B06XDNNBKC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

120W, 60 diodes at 2W each, prob 45% efficient or so. is white so thats a good start.

if you leave that in the middle of the tent i can build you 2 of these:

https://cobkits.com/product/clu048-1818-active-light-engine-single/

i can make cable hangers for those so you dont need to mount them.

an hlg-185-48A driver would run those at about 100-110W each

and youd need a driver for the fans and some wagos

def under $200 to add 200+W of pretty efficient cob light

How many strips would you recommend and what kind of driver/other stuff would I have to buy? Can you make a recommendation on any of the other stuff as well? I have no idea how much of what I would need. I can Lego it togeather with YouTube's help I'm sure
