Do you like smart pots or plastic pots better?

We don't have wallmarts here so can't comment on there bags. Are they just cloth bags like the smart pots?
Most sizes of my smart pots have handles expect the 2l ones which is no problem as they are only used for about a week.
Another thing I forgot is they are made from recycled plastic bags so
I'm doing my bit for the environment.
I hear you bro do your recycling thing, yea about the Walmart bags they're made of cloth and also have handles you can see them the picture they're just tucked in for the picture.

I went to local nurseries looking for smart pots found root pouch bags instead got me a few then I stumbled on Walmart bags at Walmart and used those ever since.

I'm not knocking any grow bags I'm just saying the savings are for tight budgets and do the same shit.

Couldn't agree more on the saving money on the bags, I shop around for every saving. They look a decent size to. I've just got root pouches for my next run as I wanted slightly smaller pots to control the height as the ones finishing now are huge and i have to fight with them every watering. The new ones I got are 3gallon and cost me 1gbp so roughly a dollar fifty each. I wish I knew how to stop spending money on my hobby, would keep the Mrs happy but I'm sure the end product will to!

If that atwo gallon, and did it come from a one gallon. You just need to give it some time for the roots to spread out then the plant will start to grow again.

I tested "Smart Pots" for the maker before they came out.....I gave my feedback and NONE of it was ever used!

Because they are NOT! (smart pots)

They air prune the roots to form a nice big ball in the center of the pot leaving an inch or so less root filled around the edge's.

You water these things and all it does is run out the sides and the bottom....This is called the "umbrella" effect. You have to water more, rerun it through (not a good idea) or let then "sit" in the runoff (not the best idea)...

Use the good old plastic pot.

I know some will come back and say "They're the "shit" and your wrong". Yeah, what ever....Do what works for YOU!
Use the plastic pots dude - they (smart pots) don't grow bigger or better buds! Are more watering work then worth the extra time.

I use fabric pots, yeah, not a fan of being overcharged for Smart Pots. I started using these a couple runs ago after moving from hard-walled plastic pots to plastic grow bags, haven't looked back since. They're especially excellent for running SOGs or just larger amounts of plants in plain coco and smaller containers for multiple feedings per day. You can run a 1gal pot of coco all the way through flower and feed 4-6x per day with those things.

I haven't noticed this issue personally but when I water I use a pump and hose and water in concentric circles from the outside in.

I water a metered amount every day to get me to the next at lights on. More o2 to the roots that way!
I've never been a "soil soaker" for that matter with any potted plant.....
I must admit that I was given a 20gallon one that I used for a Ghost pepper plant that reached potential.
I had it outside and in the end had to simply stand there with a hose and let it get soaked.....THAT lasted several days-IF it wasn't over 90 and full sun.. It still had the umbrella effect and was hard to get the whole root ball wet.....

I've seen folks cut open a root ball from a smart pot plant.....center was bone dry.....

Keep in mind I run coco, so apart from during the plant's early life it stays pretty damp. We may have different experiences if you're running soil.

QUITE right!

I can see smart pots being very good for Coco!

They just are not the best choice for soil!

i love the fact that the smart pots dry out faster and you need to water more. Faster growth with more water pounding through the root zone right? Not saying I disagree with your points because theyre true in most cases, but i havent watered to runoff in two runs and my plants havent been greener. Just feed less and save money. Also if your worried about plants sitting in the runoff, you could do what i did and tilt the tables. As my girlfriend says, "a couple inches goes a long way". And to the guy with the walmart bag thing...i couldnt do that. Theres no way id have a walmart banner grow, id just pay the extra couple bucks a plant for bags. I have bags ive used for probably ten runs, so thats like 50 cents a run and still going.

Huh. I haven't had a problem with all the water going out the sides of the pots. Mine seem to have good drainage out the bottom. Weird right? I do however have to water every 2 days like clock work. I grow in soil mixed with Hydro pellets mixed in to ratio of about 90/10.

I've had great results with smart pots.
The roots always grow thick and healthy all the way to the edges. In fact, its hard to get everything out of the pots after harvesting the plants! I literally have to peel the pots off.
There is no root ball in the center that's surrounded by unused soil. If that was the case, they'd pull right out.

I run straight promix hp. I start in quart sized plastic pots with ffof mixed with 15% pearlite. They go from quarts to five gallon smart pots with straight promix hp. Im feeding every watering at around 280-320 at first. As they get bigger in the fives ill go up to around 400-450. Then i switch to 7 gal smart pots, 6 per 1k DE bulb. When theyre in sevens i feed anywhere from 500-850 ppms. Mostly from 500-650 though. I just bump it up for the final development of flower size. My biggest plant on the last run was 186 grams and was bone dry when it was manicured. Shoulda been around 195 with a proper dry with a little moisture left in the flower. Heres one that was 165 i think.. And another that was 150 or just under it. image.jpegimage.png You can see from both pictures the plants are nice and green at chop date. The lower one actually never lost a leaf the whole grow, was never defoliated at all, and still put out 150. You cant see half the bud cause its covered in leaves. Some guys guessed that plant at three oz lol. And it looks like it. And in both pictures theres way bigger plants next to em ;) its usually 2 lbs a light the way i run. Just squish em in there ;)
