Do I really need to trellis?

No, but I would only use the 4” net if using 1. Read my comment below.

I chop everything below the net around week 2, the top of the netting is was too dense to flower lower branches.

There’s a proper 1 net scrog, With LED’s only hanging 18” above my plants I find scrog to be optimal grow method.

Never used a 2nd net, I use only the 4inch (smaller) net never had any problems.

I veg til my plants hit the net and I can tuck them under a couple times. Then I fflip, the goal is to fill every square.

i do my training during veg, and early flower. all of my pots have holes about every 3 inches about a half inch from the lip, and i use a lot of green garden wire ties to stretch them out. i leave them tied out for the first 2 or 3 weeks of flower, then take them off. they're usually done stretching by then, and all the new growth is already oriented the way i want it.

My first grow I tried to use a trellis net and didn't like it. This grow I have been doing exactly how you've described. This whole thread has been informative but your reply gave me a better idea of what to do and expect with this method. I was pretty damn sure I could achieve lateral growth using padded wires. Having the net up made watering a pain in the ass. I was going to check out your profile and see if you've got any pics of your plants. Thanks for posting this question @Swagg318 .

If that were my plants I'd have the branches down to pot level and the net 3-4" above.

9 days after using the above method.

And 16 or 18 day after pic #1

I needed a 2nd net but as already mentioned it's not always necessary it depends on how high they grow.

You could just use hemp twine, gardening wire or something else to tie it down or anchor it to the net. You just want the taller growth brought down relative to the lower growth.

I like nets. Lot's of upside and very little downside.

I've never trellised, and never will. My (probably unpopular) opinion is that its kind of silly. I tie down individual braches to the pot that its in. Doing it that way barely takes any more time in the grand scheme of things. And that way each plant is a discreet unit rather than everything becoming one...plants trellis tent and all. I can move each pot, I can shuffle around and rearrange the plants, take them out of the tent, inspect easier, etc. And then harvest time its not all tangled up together. I just simply take one pot out at a time, I don't have to untangle it or cut it out. If you're running a commercial opperation and every second counts then maybe, but everything that can be acheived with a net can also be acheived with my method, without the drawbacks except a few extra seconds here or there.

They’re great for cargo in the back of the SUV. And for fishing.

Pending on strain and size but nothing worse then having a plant topple over at week 8.

Saves the headaches by adding the second one.
