I am worried because we’re already feeling it is in Florida. The rest of the country is baking and we are sweltering. The water in the Gulf of Mexico is 90° and it’s only June. I worry for my niece and nephew but since I don’t have kids I worry for the rest of you guys kids.

I'm in NW Florida and this week I have had to flee the garden at 0900 every morning. Go outside in the late afternoon and the ground smells burnt it's so hot.

The few in the raised beds at the riverhouse, and the one bed here on the sandhill that get water everyday are doing pretty good. But the bulk of them planted straight in the garden are fading fast.

This hot dry weather is out of the norm for June. We should be getting pop up thunderstorms 6 days a week. There has been no rain for almost a week. I carried water last night to two of my semi darwin dope patches. Half were dead, half were kicking ass. I usually water once a month this time of year. I've been going once a week, and still losing plants.

a 12 volt 800 liter an hour pump with a 15 foot head or higher only costs less than $20 online, runs on a car battery or small solar panel. I used them for my garden and water cooled lights.

This one has hose connections but they come with barbed ones too, the motor rotor and impeller are the same single moving part.

A pump an old car battery and a cheap camping solar panel with a timer could automate watering, pick up garden hose lengths where you find them and use a lawn soaker on the plants. Use cheap plastic fittings from the hardware store. Ya need a water source and can chain pumps together for extra head. Pump out of a shallow well or stream up to a small reservoir and then the rest of the way up to the plants. If ya garden outdoors away from power, these will give you a much better yield and happier plants.

I've got to run some pvc before I do anything but drag hoses at the riverhouse. I have one spigot in the back yard and one on the deck on the river side. The house is raised, so everything is head high. It would be easy to run a line down from the main by each raised bed but we are going to have to run an extra pump to get rid of the sulfur smell, and I want to make sure the outside water doesn't go through that. So I guess I'll have to dig trenches.

I have tons of old soaker hoses at the sandhill garden. I have got most of the peppers in, so I can start figuring out lengths, leaks and that sort of thing. As usual I did too much garden.

We have artesian water at the riverhouse. I do run a pump, but we have tons of water. In fact I keep a pond in a damned off slough with water straight from the well with no pumping. It runs all the time.

If ya got the heat ya need the water and nuets, gravity make things easier and automation makes it consistent. I used to collect old garden hose allover the place during spring clean up got a ton for free, a solenoid valve and simple timer are cheap and can run on a battery for a long time.

Here is a neat idea that might interest you, a power free water pump and you can DIY it with a car tire.
