I disagree. Many people whom I encounter on a daily basis are wealthy. Some of them are into small government, less taxes, capitalism and free market. The others have compassion. I'm not a millionaire, but I do make a fair amount of money, AND I don't mind paying higher taxes IF it goes to benefit others who may not have it as good as I do, AND I am not looking for free healthcare UNLESS it satisfies my if statement. Im content paying for my healthcare. But if it benefits society as a whole, why not?
Ya see, you and I have a lot in common.
I too do not mind paying taxes to help those who cannot help themselves.
Perhaps the difference is, I want accountability for my money. I can't stomach the fact that people who need help are not getting it, why does my government waste so much and spend the money on things they deem more important?

I can agree with that in its entirety. I'm not sure either. But I'm not sure that cutting the government off at the knees is the right answer. But I completely agree, accountability is essential.

However, supporting people who spend their entire lives on the welfare rolls, people who break the law to come here and have babies and who then spend the next 18 years riding the welfare rolls, that is an entirely different animal all together.
Solution: Tax any assistance received, at the point of receipt. That's right, your red white and blue striped free food card is 28% smaller this month. Gotta pay those taxes.

Your tax dollars go to forge your own chains and pay to kill people that have never harmed you. Society can only be benefited as a whole when all people are free to make choices, not have them made for them.

Yes, I totally agree, Welfare NEEDS to be reformed. Not done away with, but reformed, more accountability. I'm not sure your solution really makes sense, but I kinda see the direction you are going. And it could be a plausible solution to lessen the amount received by each welfare recipient. Not necessarily a tax.
Yes, which is why I am in favor of cutting defense budget by half. I am not a war time supporter, I see war as a last resort to an imminent threat. With the exception of 9/11, the United States has not been in imminent danger since Pearl Harbor. Unlike Pearl Harbor, where we responded rationally and swiftly, 9/11 was a corporate coup of government policy. Cheney and Bush were in it for the money. One word. Halliburton. I look at our defense budget as the single largest welfare jobs program the United States has ever created.

I just looked at cover Oregon's calculator and when I add my wife the very cheapest health plan goes from 289.00 to 674.00 and that is the bottom bronze plan...I hope that is not true...
The plan I had with the state before they dumped me was 574.00 with a 1500.00 deductible...My wife is on medicare so we don't need anything for her but when I add her age and income the prices explode.. If I was to chose a plan like I had with the state it would be a gold plan and oregon wants over 1200.00 per month for that one...So that would be a huge increase...I am expecting them to call me anyday now...And I will post up what I find out...fuck I hope that isn't true..

And this may be the impact of living in a state that does not participate in the national marketplace. Why not stay with Oregon coverage? I realize they cancelled your policy, but without offering something in return, I believe that is outright illegal.
