Can you move a vegging plant from the soil to a pot?

So I’ve tried looking this up, but haven’t found any information.
I have a 4ft vegging plant in the ground outdoors, and would like to move it to a pot.
Is it possible to transplant it this far along without killing it? It does have quite large roots

Why do you need to move it. I dont have much of an answer for you but just wondering y you would have to cause i plan to plant in the ground next year.

My advice would be to ensure the pot you transplant into is large enough to accommodate the root system. Start by digging wide around the plant. Trying not to damage root along the way.
What size pots will you be transplanting into?

Yes you can move it just use care will removing and transplanting. I also moved the 2 plants I have from a raised bed to smart pots and they are doing fine.

Even if you kill some of the roots around the outer edge if it is still in veg it will shake it off easily, Make sure the soil is wet when you make the move.

I will be putting it in a 15 gal pot. The ground is great to grow in, I’m just moving the plant because there are 2 other plants on each side of this one bushing outwards quite rapidly and overshadowing this one. Poor baby needs it’s own space. Thank you for the suggestions everyone!

I've done it too. And the plant can survive the whole ordeal. I have even done it in flower on a seven + foot wide plant successfully. But if its between two other plants that are close enough to shadow the middle one, you'll be digging into their root zones as well. Could you just bend the others out a bit? That's what I would do.
Either way, good luck friend!
