Oh yeah ... vacation means vacation at this place. Everyone knows that Starecase is completely unavailable until the morning of June 24th.

My previous employer ... not so much.
The previous ones all have to learn the hard way. I got called up to the office trailer for an "emergency meeting" because I pissed off the project manager. Got up to the office trailer and everyone was picking up the mess he made from kicking the garbage cans all over the office lol I quit right there and went to work for another contractor. When that job was don't, the asshole that kick the garbage pails hired me back a ith a %15 raise. Then I quit again because he's nuts, but boy was his money green

My neighbor has that same type of relationship with his GC. He's not aggressive in that he'll mistreat trash cans ... he's just a conniving fuck.

Last fall, he said they had THE FALLING OUT where the GC alleged to have called my buddy "the selfish SOB that you are." "Selfish" to this GC meant that my friend was demanding the money that the fucker promised to pay him while they were pricing those jobs. I am sure you have met that type of guy? So they parted ways and the GC said that he was done with my neighbor

Now I have seen this song and dance a few times before in 16 years I've known him. Last week I found out that the same GC called him with hat in hand saying "I need you again ..." So my neighbor is back to real early mornings so he can get to the job site and trim the houses for this guy.

But I suspect that by by spring 2025, the GC will go on the same tirade and they'll have that same spat.

Yep, same song and dance. But every time I went back it cost him more and more. With overtime and benefits from the union, I was making more than him. That's the part that hurt him the most. I used to leave my pay stubs out in the trailer by my lunch pail by " accident "

There was also an empty dest in the office trailer. I brought in pictures from home and made a little "lunch nest" I ate there for a month and brought in new decor every few days. I got kicked out of there when I quit the 3rd time

When he asked my why I did that. I told him because when I get laid off, I just grab my tools and go to the hall. I never had to "clean my desk out" just wanted to know how that felt. Now I never will, you selfish prick

It's not a good feeling. My clean out happened in early December of 2004. There were 44 in total let go on that November 12th 2003 morning. And the doinks who did the firing told us that we had to come in after hours - between 9:00 PM and midnight - to clean our shit out. We needed to make an appt with the Security company who had the contract for that particular building no earlier than Nov 26th so they wanted us to wait 14 days before we started making appts. Addendum - I found out a few years later that the CIO also submitted her resignation on Nov 12th and she was slated to start her next role on Dec 1st. Her last day at this place was Nov 26th. So she set it up so that she didn't potentially see anyone that she fired carrying out their shit.

What a cowardly POS ...

The Security Co.'s business card was part in the "firing folder" - so we had a quick reference when it was time to make that appt. We had to have one of their guards accompany us to our desks while we cleaned 'em out. So some 22 year old kid stood guard as I packed up more IT experience than that kid had been alive.

Unbelievable. That was the best part when I fired someone. They definitely deserved it. But if just laid off, there's nothing I can do about it. I personally hand delivered each check and shook the guys hand.

I've been on the other side where you get a phone call and your told to come pick up your tools.

I also had a tiny traveler from honduras, via the Miami local, give me a hug when he he went home. He gave me a t shirt and he was crying. Little tyke. They grow up so fast. T shirt almost fits now. I was 290 when he gave it to me. I'm 190 now. Probably 10 more pounds to go

I sure don't miss office politics.
Funny how valuable you become after you give notice.
Next to last job I had I begged to be put on day shift. Nope no openings.
So I found another job and gave notice. Suddenly there was an opening and a 4 dollar an hour raise if I'd stay. Sorry folks when I quit it's over, never been back, even to visit, to anyplace I've quit.

I only had 2 jobs, about 15 years each. I gave the first one 2 months notice because they respected me and knew the value of my work. The next place didn't understand my job or the skills I brought to it so I gave them 2 weeks. My job was very calendar oriented. It took them a year to replace me and had to use super expensive contractors to do my job in the meanwhile. Museum exhibition management is fussy business. I had an exit interview with the dean of the college and absolutely torched them. They pushed my boss out shortly afterward. It was just her and me and some student workers. They didn't understand the job and it became clear to me and the dean during that meeting that my boss had been gaslighting me for years about compensation.

That previous employer thought that my backup and I shared the duties equally. They also thought that we had the same skills relating to supporting both the Windows servers and the HCL Domino application layer running on them. They found out while I went on my first lengthy vacay that he did not know SFA when it came to any problems above what was termed L1 - Help Desk/Service Desk level. Ergo, the calls the first few times I went away on vacation.

At the time I left that place near the end of July 2016, that IT Services company was supporting two (2) large HCL Domino clients and the Management thought my backup could easily handle the same workload. I sensed that they were gonna crash and burn with regards to those two clients. Before we reached the middle of August of 2016, I received a somewhat frenetic call from my previous Director saying "Starecase, we've got a problem."

Knowing where this phone call was likely headed, I really resisted the urge to say "Umm no ... it's YOU guys that have a problem."

After some near begging, borrowing and stealing from that Director, we agreed that they would set-up a 6 month contract for me and I would continue to support the tougher problems and application design issues for these two clients. And in that time, they were supposed to find another Starecase. They did 2 more 6 month deals that ran until the end of 2017 when they finally hired that more skilled person to slide into my old role.

And here's the kicker that I still chuckle about some 6 years later. I found out that in the summer of 2018, 6 months after the new guys was hired, BOTH of those contracts were lost to other providers.

We're endemic for thrips. I use 1 oz Monterey Spinosad in 1 gallon of my nutrients and water with that every 3 days until I see no more flyers and then weekly for awhile. That way you don't have to spray. If she's interested in a way to treat without spraying.
So, spinosad is systemic? I'm curious how long it takes after harvest for this to work it's way out so you're not smoking spinosad. It's banned here where I'm at for commerical grows due to safety concerns...and they do test for it in the lab.

It's systemic when doing root drenches, not very translaminar (local systemic only) as foliar application. Switching to foliar application in flower limits acumulation in plant and soil. Breaks down pretty quickly in water sunlight oxygen.

Spinosad is broken down rapidly by sunlight. In the presence of sunlight, half-lives on leaves are 2 to 16 days and less than one day in water. When applied to leaves, some spinosad can be absorbed. However, it does not readily spread from leaves to the rest of the plant. In the absence of sunlight, spinosad breaks down very slowly in water. Half-lives of more than 30 days to 259 days have been reported. However, it binds rapidly to sediment. The halflife in sediment, where no oxygen is available, ranges from 161 to 250 days.
Spinosad also sticks to soil and has a very low potential to move through soil towards ground water. In field studies, no break down products of spinosad were found below a soil depth of two feet. In the top layers of soil, spinosad is rapidly broken down by microbes. Soil half-lives of 9 to 17 days have been reported. After it is applied, spinosad is not likely to become airborne.
