The job agencies do NOT want you finding a job yourself and cancelling welfare. They make commissions on 'finding' you the job.
just rorts.
One of my stories with them. i needed to do a course because i was just shy of how many hrs a week i had to work even when my fortnightly benefit was like $30 bucks.
So i agreed to a Business management course. Its what ive done most my workin life but i have no formal education in it.
So the job agencie payed a company in the ACT $600 so i could do the course.
Found out that same day that the company they were paying was another company this company owned.
Course was bullshit. Talked about how to read a clock so ur not late for an interview. I was wearing a Baume & Mercier watch when i learnt that. It was a total waste of time and money. But Chaching for them.

Sorry, mate, I'm gonna have to pull you up on this one & agree with you at the same time...

I've had harrowing times being on Newstart in the past (due to retrenchment) & they want you to apply for multiple (shitty) jobs per week that simply don't exist. You keep applying & show what you've done, but it never seems good enough for them.

Then when you find a job FOR YOURSELF, they ask "How can we help you further" (like they ACTUALLY helped you find that job FFS??).

I got contacted recently by the ATO - FIVE FUCKING YEARS after I got a job off my own bat, telling me that I'd been over-paid Newstart allowance & had to pay it back. We're talking about $300. Pay-up IMMEDIATELY!

It took them FIVE FUCKING YEARS to discover this debt, so I offerered to pay it back over five years (it's only fair, yeah?), but they insisted on a speedy pay-back & wanted to know everything about my current finances, how much I earn, how much my partner earns etc..etc..... I told them to fuck off. I've agreed to pay-off the debt at $15/week.

On top of that, the TOTAL amount that I got out of Centrelink during that financial year has been added to my taxable income, rather than simply the "over-payment" (which I'm paying-back).

Fuck 'em! They can chase me for it as long as my arse points to the ground.
Bruh you and 50000 other people got fiddled by robo debt.

I think you miss my point. People don’t want to be on Centrelink. It’s designed the way it is so people would rather get a job than deal
With the bull shit.

If someone did want to bludge the system It’s not hard to apply for 20 jobs a month. Like walk into 20 random businesses and hand them a resume and ask if they have any work. Boom quota met. It’s all the other bull shit like work for the dole that makes it a real pain in the ass.

Agree, Unless you find a decent one (Which is rare) my current provider is heaps better than my last. Like the only thing this one has even slightly quizzed me on is my resume which is out of date, even with corona and going to phone appointments she still said to send through my old one and the new info and she’ll fix it all up.

But its their job to fix it up. Thats what they should be for- to help someone find a job.
But its not, its about keeping u looking for a job, doing courses and finding u casual work- so they get paid a bonus and then have u back on the books in 3 months time.

I just consider it all bullshit I’ve got to deal with to get my concession card and enough cash to pay the bills. The best person at finding me a job is me, I’ve got all my jobs from face to face conversations either with mates or people i meet while working, while I’ve probably applied for 200 jobs in the last 3 months and got maybe a dozen phone calls back.

I could fix my own resume but I don’t own a computer and need to head down to the library, working atm makes that a bit hard, corona isn’t helping

Concession card is gold, thats why i had to do the course. and not just tell em to fk off. Dont have one anymore. Still miss that card.
