Ok, well i got my 2 x 4 pot top feed to recycle kits done, heres a quick explanation of what i used and how to put together.....

First get your pots, use the pots with handles so when they sit in each other they are not touching the bottoms, the handles prevent it from going all the way, these ones;

Now get a holesaw and a stanley knife, im setting it up with 4 pots for this demo so grab 4 pots, grab your holesaw and at the bottom where the lip is, drill your holesaw hole, now using the stanley knife, cut the bottom off at the lip.

Now once youve done that to 4 pots, flip them upside down and put to the side, grab another 4 pots, and right in the bottom at the side drill out your holes and insert your grommet;

Grab your last 4 pots, and drill out holes in the bottom for drainage;

Now, in the top of the last 4 pots that youve just drilled drainage holes in, up the top, drill a hole for your watering ring, once youve done that, grab the second pot with the grommet in the bottom on side and sit it in the first upside down pot, make sure the grommet sits where the half circle is where you used the holesaw, the top pot will sit in the groove on the lip very snug;

Now put your watering ring in;

Now you can cfg the lines as per your own desire, but the end result is;

You have 1 line coming out the top of res leading to the top lines ( watering rings ), then you have the return to resgoing in the side of the res.

I have made 2 x 4 pot systems, not bad for under $100. Hope that helps someone.

@Haze

Love the setup mate, just wondering why you need so many buckets though? I have a 25L bucket i got from Big W that has a 13mm feed into the top and a 19mm drain down the bottom and does me fine, so just curious as to why so many extras?

skizz its so the pots are higher than the res and drain back
i got the same sort of set up but only use 2pots per stack and i put a piece of timber under the last one but my res is outside my room and the cupboard floor is higher then where the water drains back in

I had 4 under a 600w and was told that was about max i would want to have so im gonna assume 400w is pushing it. THAT SAID im pretty sure it works more on the SPACE not plant limit. ie. 600w was something like 1m x 1m so 400w would be maybe 0.8m x 0.8m ?

thats exactly how i would calculate it myself...4 plants under 1 x 600w gives them good spacing.

Again odlaw is correct also with the 4 extra pots, you dont essentially need them you can use other things, even build a cheap flat platform that is the same height as your res for the entire pot system to sit on or come up with something else, however the cool thing that i didnt do with the pots, i totally forgot and didnt in effect have all the right connectors, however, you could essentially drill your drainage hole in the bottom of your return to res pots and have the hosing run directly down ensuring it drain fully, or you can do it out the side which will still drain properly, but to make the kit neater you could do it dead center int he middle of the of the pot going down. If anyone wants more info or advice pricing, anything please ask, im happy to offer my advice.

So you guys know the pots i used are only 20cm, you can get bigger pots, 30cm, 50cm, for a tent setup though i decided to use the 20cm so i dont lose height.

my rooms pretty big hmm maybe i should knock a small cabinet up
if your growing in your shed just buy a big ass piece of panda film (cheap as chips and lasts ages!!!!!) and hang it from the ceiling to essentially make the room smaller. I personally love to build so built a tent outta MDF for walla and Pine for the frame then just used panda film inside and covered the outside in some old builders plastic and ag mat i had around the place. The thing is pretty light proof but weighs a f**k load lol.

Yes Odlaw, there's a lip around the bottom of the pot, i can sit on them and they don't move. I will post pic of what I mean for you, I'm currently on my mobile phone.

yeah but haze from the look of your pic the top two pots sit in the base not on it so im thinking as the weight increases they will slide down further into your base which would by the looks of things cause your drainage tube to come out or kink and leak from the grommet

if ya gunna use scrap timber thats been sitting around i would advise giving it a scrub first with a 10 to1 ratio of water and white vinegar it will kill any germs andmould spores if any on it that u may not be able to see with the eye but thats just my opinion man
