3 weeks flowering CFL: What do you think?

exaclty when to harvest if a personal preference that depends on what type of high you like, the trichomes will darken further after the full 48 hours of dark if you use that method, the darker you let your trichs get the more of a couch lock high you will get as opposed to a clear UPPY high from clearer whiter trichs. i wait til about 65% of my trichs have gone solid white then i give 2 says of dark and cut them, hang them for 3-5 days then seal them in a jar that gets aired out every day for a week. then i leave it for another 1-2 weeks in a cool dark area. gives a nice high with nice mellow smoke and great flavor.

hey dude what is the reason behind leaving it in dark the last two days?

this alows the plant to use the last of its food store to build resin, or so ive heard, it really does seem to make a difference in how potent the bud is, i can grow 2 clones from the same mother side by side and i can tell what bud came off the plant that got 2 days of dark before harvest.

i would trim that plant, and let the top get bigger. it useing energy to grow them bottom branches that really dont produce a lot of bud. That energy would be better off going to the top of the plant. more grow at top. all in all plant looks nice under those lights need more no dout.

These are current as of 1/3/10

The first two are of smaller nugs, and the last one is of one of the main colas.

I guess it still has some time to go.

How much longer do you figure?

dude your shit looks dope! I gotta Q for you if ya don't mind. I've been batteling heat issues aswell, I'm running 6, 26W, 2700K CFL's, and 4, 13W, 2700K CFL's right now (208W total). My temps started to jump over 100 degrees F at one point. Anyways, I've modified the grow box and now have 2 exhaust fans and one inline fan. The thems are now steady at 84.6...

Here's my Q, when I was reading earlier you said that your 68W CFL produces less heat in comparison than the 14watters..... Is this really true? How do you come to that conclusion? It's about the same temp just puts out alot more light? If you wouldn't mind expanding on that just a little I would really really really appreciate it! Cuz if that's the case I may have to just get 4 of those and git rid of all my small ones.... Thanks bro! And PROPS!

Its true, the 68w bulb I have puts out the least amount of heat. The reason is because it has a lot more glass (think normal cfl x6, its huge) to diffuse the heat. Also, I'm thinking that it has a better heat exchanger in the ballast as that is about four times the size of a normal cfl ballast. They really do work well, and for my next grow I plan to only use 68 watters The only reason I'm not right now is because of space. from my experiance 23w bulbs put out the most heat. The way I can tell is because I have tried a few configurations, and I have a nice thermometer in my box, also you can tell when you toch the bulbs themselves. The 68w can be touched for an extened period, while the 23w will actually burn you.

I was able to add 2 23w without messing up my heat so far, so we'll see how it goes. Also I went ahead and cut the lower branches off since I guess they would just be sucking growth from my main nugs.

Oh nice! Thanks man! It's MUCH appreciated! +rep! I will be switching over to the massive bulbs after I finish this grow then!

And I seriously JUST did the same thing last night to my flowering plant that I'm LSTing. I now have 17 colas..... =D

btw, you need more light.. if you added more light right now, say double the light, you would instantly(the next day) notice a increase in the plants growth, and also notice that it is sprouting a lot more white pistolas, or "hairs", and you would get nice, dense, and headie nugs... all hairs turn "red", white pistolas are immature, while red ones are mature

these plants love light, and light is the only thing that can dramatically increase plant output by simply adding more
Well you were right about adding more light, I added two 23w 6500k bulbs for a total of:

1 68w 2700k
2 23w 6500k
4 14w 2700k

I saw new growth almost immediately, and a ton of new white hairs sprouted up.

I've been checking the trics, and none of them seem to be turning all that cloudy, so I guess I've got some more time to go. Kind of a bummer because I'm at 8 weeks right now, and I was hoping it would be done pretty soon.

dont stess it man, sativas tend to take a little longer to flower, but you will end up with more buds becuse of that. you have probly a little more than two weeks to go, keep up the good work.

where did you get your seeds from? whats it called i was wondering what that type is cuz its easy to clone
Its just a bag-seed plant from some stuff I got a while ago. I plan to attempt plant regeneration and cloning after I harvest.

Well, its been about a week, so I figured I might as well post some new photos to show the progress as well as the branches that I removed.

Here is the whole plant:

One of the main colas:

Zoomed in once:

Zoomed in twice:

As of right now I am water every other day or so with 20oz of water. Every other watering I add about two drops of 8-7-6 fert (recommended 7-8 drops per gallon) and about 1/2 tbs of raw cane sugar.

Should I stop adding nutrients soon?

you still have a little bit to go, i would stop the nutes soon though. all the pistols shoud go red/brown before you harvest and your trichs should be nice and milky, not clear.

Right on, I think I'll stop giving it nutes after this week, which means I'll only give it nutes about two more times. However, I think I'll give it sugar water for another week after that as it doesn't seem to be causing any issues and it won't affect the taste as much. After that I'll just go with straight water till its ready, which will hopefully be within the month but we'll see. Idk, I'm certainly glad the nugs are getting bigger, but I'm chomping at the bit to cut it down. Oh well, as they say, good things come to those who wait. With curing, this stuff will be good to go in time for 420, so that's nice.

yeah it should be done before the end of this month for sure, usually like 2 weeks after its last growth spurt, look for the buds to get real solid the last couple wekks, its nice. i only cure my bud for about 2 weeks before smoking it so you will def have some for 420. keep up the good work.
