Looks like bud worm damage. (Caterpillars) Check deep in the buds for them. Often the damaged areas are dry and brittle on the outer parts but there waste could be in there rotting.

the can filter is the best. you can use an 8 dollar fan from walmart that drops tightly in the 5 gallon bucket for the odor bucket. :joint::peace:
