Pictures of your DIY lights - Post your pics!!!

I'm not understanding the concern about the SSR output connections. The thing is a triac, right?

So, I just read via Forbes that General Hydroponics is owned by Scotts/MiracleGro.

I'll expand my comment. [Disclaimer: I use GH MaxiBloom and pH Down.] There is an exclusive marketing agreement for Scotts to market Monsanto's RoundUp in North America. Monsanto does not own Scotts (that owns Hawthorne). These are publicly traded companies so there is at least some...

I'm pretty sure one of them is fake news.

    PH Pen fell in water

The going price for Bluelab pH (only) Meter is $150. I allowed a probe to dry out during a break from growing. Replacements are about $60. The cable type probes have an excellent gland seal to keep the storage solution in. (If you remember to screw down the cap.) I was going to say, Hydrofarm...

    PH Pen fell in water

Hanna seals are lame, in my experience. I gave up on Hanna and use Blue Lab pH Meters now (the model with a cable and BNC connector). But yeah, take the batteries out and dry it.

Mean Well HBG-60-1400 on ModuLED Giga with CXB3590

The data sheet and reality says the enclosed model (for sure) is dimmable by an internal pot. I don't see any info that excludes the bare board version. http://www.meanwell-bg.com/files/M2015H2/HBG-60-spec.pdf I use an earlier version of this light meter: https://www.hydrofarm.com/p/LG17010...

Mean Well HBG-60-1400 on ModuLED Giga with CXB3590

A CXB3590 3000K 90CRI BD bin on the ModuLED Giga 100mm stays below 50 C when drawing 55W from the wall, according to the thermocouple and an IR thermometer gun. I believe these Cree are designed to run at 85 C. When I say "name brand", I mean Cree, Citizen, and Bridgelux--not ebay junk. The...

Mean Well HBG-60-1400 on ModuLED Giga with CXB3590

I think I'd use the ModuLED Mega 134100-B-HBG and keep things simple. It will obviously run warmer than a 152mm diameter model of the same length but the name brand COBs are rugged. Use either the Mechatronix connector set or use spacers to provide an air gap under the driver. As to how I...

How do I mount my Passive Heatsink COB LEDs to the light hangers?

I've bolted OOK brand D-rings (thanks Rahz) to the fins and then run a short loop of jack chain at each end. http://www.homedepot.com/p/OOK-1-Hole-D-Rings-Hanger-Value-Box-14-Pack-59981/202258035 I've also bolted on cable ties with integrated mounting holes...

Mean Well HBG-60-1400 on ModuLED Giga with CXB3590

Hi rocho, Cree is probably not the best for the money right now so Vero or Citizen might be better choices. I couldn't tell you what to buy right now; I haven't kept up with things. I'm in the USA so an IEC computer type connector allows 120V or 240V without a dangerous "cheater" plug using...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

I'd forgotten about AFCI being standard in the US now. I'm pretty sure the Mean Well 240VAC spec circuit breaker is a more international standard but I don't know what it is.

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

I've run 3600W of Lumigrow LEDs on a 240V 20A (12AWG) circuit. I couldn't say what prices should be, I do my own work. (The circuit is now used for 1600W of Mean Well--Cree 3590's) Your load center should have vacant spots for new circuit breakers so I don't think a subpanel will be...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

How much for the 240V circuit? I don't see your other options being any cheaper. Disclaimer: I'm not an electrician but I know one.

    Cultilene Mapito - growing medium

Growpito was using the Amazon storefront but it looks like they've gone out of business. Majestik Mediums doesn't seem to be a going concern. Any suggestions for mapito in the US, including DIY? (specific rockwool and polyethylene/polyurethane foam products).

surplus copper, aluminum, Composite heatsinks... ...?

"do any of these designs look adequate to passively cool an 100w Luna100?" No but the Zalmans might come close. What are the black ones made of, being lighter than aluminum? Copper is thermally better than aluminum but it is heavy and expensive.

Lumens, Lux, and Adding It all Up

I set up my first COB grow and adjusted the luminaires for 5000 foot candles at 20 inches (as measured by a Hydrofarm digital meter). I turned off half the COBs for seedlings but they seemed to be stretching so I turned all the lights back on. The seedlings are now getting 3000 foot candles...
