    CO2 generator advice

Thinking of getting a minigen co2 generator and an APC8200 controller for my 5x5 tent. Does anyone have experience with the minigen? My apartment already has ~800ppm CO2 thanks to me and my cat. Will bumping that up to 1200ppm in a small apartment produce an enormous amount of heat? Would it be...

I prefer to cut off a small sample so the microscope stand is ideal.

    Pollen Chuckers vs. Real breeders

Open pollination doesn't just mean pollinating outside, it means more than one male per patch. The way they grow in nature. Each plant is it's own strain, especially since everyone uses clones and we literally have zero breeders who give enough fucks to produce a stable hybrid. In my opinion...

    My First Flowering Stage

Looking good! Environment is key. You can actually get more yield out of adding CO2 and running a low VPD environment than you can by getting a brighter light.

    DIY with Quantum Boards

I'd go with spider farmer SF4000.

    What’s a good usb microscope?

Me too, way better than the $22 USB one.

If they're lm301b's then you can use the converter on HLG's site. https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/blogs/calculators/converting-lux-to-ppfd

    What’s a good usb microscope?

I don't have one yet, but I have had my heart set on this: https://www.amazon.com/Opti-Tekscope-Microscope-Advanced-Definition-Industrial/dp/B0184CCOY0/ref=sr_1_20?keywords=usb+microscope&qid=1577754483&s=electronics&sr=1-20 I have the $22 one now but it really sucks. I need better resolution.

    Pollen Chuckers vs. Real breeders

The difference between a breeder and a pollen chucker is writing shit down. A breeder knows what traits he's breeding for and breeding against and he writes down exactly how many of each test set have which genes. Then by doing a little math they can figure out if it's dominant or recessive...

Why are so many new growers choosing blurple/led over hps/mh??

I have a magnetic induction bulb (from my profile pic) that I still use on an inkbird controller to heat my tent because the LEDs don't produce enough heat to hit the optimal 82F in the winter. The induction bulb puts out a ton of IR like an HPS does, so it can bring the room up to temp in a...

Why are so many new growers choosing blurple/led over hps/mh??

They can still explode even if you use gloves. Just from manufacturing defects or whatever. Shit happens. A glass hood helps to catch the flaming hot death, but it increases heat and decreases light output.

    Should I consider DIY?

3.0umol/J at system level (at the wall). That is huge. You can still DIY, you can wait and get parts from HLG or you can order lm301H strips from digikey now. It won't have whatever spectrum tweaks they're throwing into the next r-spec board, but it's still 3.0umol/J.

    Should I consider DIY?

My advice is wait a couple months for HLG to come out with V3 boards and then do what you're planning. You could also get two 260w heatsinks instead to spread the light out a little more. I run 2 of them in a 5x5 now and plan on upgrading to 4 of them as soon as HLG comes out with new boards.

The Chinese Quantum Board Knock Off Builds

Yeah well I think I'm an idiot. :) Stephen from HLG told me to oversize my drivers slightly so they'd run cooler and last longer and I confused that with efficiency. That plus every computer power supply efficiency curve I've ever seen is roughly a bell curve, and I assumed that the A type...

Why are so many new growers choosing blurple/led over hps/mh??

Even ignoring differences in electricity costs, if you cut your electricity usage in half, you'd save $57.50 per month by switching (actually more because of AC costs) which is $690 a year. Easily enough to cover quantum board upgrades for a 4x4 or 5x5.

    organics flush or no flush

They should rename flushing because it's not the same thing as dumping a ton of water through a pot. People used to do that because they thought you could wash the nutrients out of a plant. You can't. Flushing just means stopping nutrients at some point so the plant stops producing new...

Why are so many new growers choosing blurple/led over hps/mh??

Where I live, electricity costs 4x as much as it does where you live. $400 a month in electricity bills is enough money to add a new 260W quantum board kit every month and still have money left over to power it. Also, it's hot as balls where I live, and being able to run my tent 10 degrees...

    DIY Grow cabinet help

I have no idea what these people are thinking saying that quantum boards get hotter than strips. They are more efficient than something with fewer LEDs like a bunch of spaced out strips. More efficiency means less heat per photon.
