thanks man, because it is a 36V COB there are a huge amount of driver options. a good starting point might be 50W per COB. You can find 1.4A drivers on ebay like these

    CXB3590 1500W

Sometimes you can find it cheaper and they are available in a variety of widths. I used 12mm or 1/2" http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Mil-Polyimide-Thermal-Adhesive-Tape-12mm-X-33m-Compare-to-Kapton-Tape-/121361523920?hash=item1c41b5e4d0:g:EEYAAOSwzhVWtLUU

    Sanding heat sinks

Yes I did try an orbital sander but surprisingly it did not reduce the work much if at all in my case. Then I got a belt sander but I checked the temp droop results before using the belt sander.

    Sanding heat sinks

I have never tested thermal pads but CREE did provide some data on that. Because the pads are relatively thick, if you use a high conductivity thermal pad (relatively expensive?) it will perform well but if it is low conductivity it will perform relatively poorly. Then again they recommend...

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

I believe the spreadsheet is hosted here http://ledbuilder.org/index.php?forums/project-plans-how-to-guides.9/ Cheapest place I know of for ordering small amounts of drivers is Onlinecomponents.com because they have flat $8 shipping. If you are ordering 10 of the same model Sager is probably...

    Got my 3590's. Look different....

Grouch is correct, CREE has printed the numbers on the COBs several different ways over time. The traces I am referring to are the tiny gold wires you can see through the surface of the COB. The pattern for the CXA3590 is much different than the CXB3590. Your COBs both match the pattern of the...

    Got my 3590's. Look different....

The CXAs have a much different trace pattern than CXBs and a significantly higher Vf, so you can check that if you are still concerned. I think it was me that bought the very last of Jerry CXA3590s LOL Looks like you got a CXB3590 4000K 80 CRi CD 36V class

    Sanding heat sinks

If you want them truly flat, you would have to start out with 80-120 grit and 90% of the work is done at those grits, definitely wet sanding. It is quite a lot of work to get the large waves out. The waves run in the same direction as the fins so you can do most of the flattening in the opposite...

    Got my 3590's. Look different....

There have been many iterations of lettering on Cree COBs over time. I think the newest is the gold and grey lettering but no worries if you got black. You can see that they are CXB by the arrangement of the traces, they match exactly in the pics you posted. As far as Kingbrite not being...

Yes I like how the BJBs are slanted like the LEDIL clamp, I will check their effect as well.

    Top bin COB comparison 2

Gotcha thank you for clarifying, so there are no reflector holder effects in these numbers. I agree the ideal holder should have no effect, I mean to say reflector adapter rather than holder. I would like to test the ideal reflector holders effects versus the ledil clamp just out of curiosity

    Top bin COB comparison 2

Great data thank you sir! How was each COB mounted? In my tests I mounted them without holder, using kapton BUT I did check the output of the Vero 29 with LEDIL C13584 holder and the holder gave it a 5-7% boost in output because it is a great shape to act as a mini reflector. I did not check the...

    Top bin COB comparison

About half way through this thread I started from scratch with a more time consuming but more accurate method, mounting each COB onto the exact same heatsink and hanging it from the exact same chain links. After that you can see the CXB3070 performing closer to what was expected,. It does droop...

Added the Vero 29 3000K 80CRi V2. It came equal to or just under the 4000K, very good performance overall. I whited out the CXB3070 3500 to help us see the Vero curves better.
