Hook up your system with just one bucket. Fill it with your desired medium. Flood it and then unhook the hose and kink it. Measure the amount of water in the bucket and you will know how much each bucket holds. Do the math after that.

Cleaning hydroton is easy. Just build a box with a metal screen that is smaller than the hydroton. Get a pressure washer and it shoots all the roots off. I've been using the same hydroton for 5-6 years

Rockwool holds too much moisture for a bucket system. I wouldn't recommend it.

If your running 2 gal pots with hydroton each pot takes roughly 1 gal of water. So for 36 pots you need at least 55 gal res at minimum. In heavy flower you will need to add more water every 3 days.

You need hydroton or something around the block. Whatever you do make sure the block is above the watering line. Top feed for the first week so the roots can dig down. After that the rockwool block should never get wet. Keep the wrapper on the block to prevent algae growth and cover the top of it

With rockwool always put the cube above the flood level. Top water for the first week or so and then start to flood. I've always gotten explosive root growth this way.

Once your roots can enter the flood zone you can let the cubes dry out. Just make sure to flood 3-4 times a day

I'd say get the sentinels mef1 if you're going to get any of these types of systems.
