    SIP thread -- (Sub-Irrigated Planter)

I wasn't going to grow this summer, but my old SIP was empty and the sun is free. I'm already taking care of a garden, and this thing can go a few days without attention if necessary. I got a breeder's floor mix six-pack freebie. Two sprouted, and one was a mutant. I'll move it inside when it...

    Seedlings under heavy lighting test

Right on, hopefully we can all learn some stuff! I may have sun, but not enough privacy. I only veg outside.

    Seedlings under heavy lighting test

FWIW, I sprouted a seed under a 600W SE HPS, and after the cotyledons were open, I put it outside. It's not growing fast because it's so cold, but it's under full sun 12+ hours per day. It's fine.

    Living Soil Wicking Beds

Harvested three weeks ago, showed pistils for 11 weeks (switched to 12/12 before sexual maturity). Stripped fan leaves and hung to dry in a tent for three weeks at 60% RH. Dry trimmed lightly, weighed at 7.3 oz. (first time weighing my yield). Half of that is larfy mids for edibles. Smells...

Should I flush or not ?

It's an interesting study linked, even if the linker didn't understand it. The part you mention stuck out to me big time. So did this part: "There appears to be an inverse relationship between cannabis yield and potency, with cannabinoid concentrations decreasing as plant inflorescence yield...

    Guidance on medium improvement

I love your soil mix. It looks like a lot of locally sourced inputs! Myke is pretty much spot-on. More soil, or top-dress every couple of weeks. You will find that 15 gallons or more (~60 liters) is a common minimum suggestion for organic grow pot size.

Fun with Vermiculture - Vermicomposting. Making Worm Castings for Organic growing.

I've been saving cardboard and dead twigs, and have a spin barrel now. Thinking about doing my first worm bin. I guess I'm to the point where I need to source some red wigglers!

    Jumping in with both feet....

I used only vermiculite for one grow and it got a bit compacted and a tiny bit soggy at the bottom of the pot (I was top-watering at the time). I still use vermiculite for silica, water retention, and I hear it has good CEC, but I'm not sure if my setup realizes that benefit. But I use perlite...

    WHAT TO DO?

Well, mid-May was mentioned, so the dateline hypothesis doesn't hold. Unless we hear otherwise, we'll have to go with time travel.

    WHAT TO DO?

Pardon, but I think we all need some closure here. Could you please explain the May comment? It gives us the impression that we are all experiencing different calendars.

    Iron, zinc, manganese organically?

If this is in organic proper soil, like in an old pile with forms of regolith, it's more likely you have an excess of P or Ca locking iron/zinc out. But if you actually have low levels of micros, I would use frass and/or EWC. I'm sure there are other sources. Hard to say without more...

Mycorrhiza Fungi...why you should get to know them...

Well, I'd want to know more about your setup before saying anything specific. What size pots are you using, and what kind of soil is in them?

Mycorrhiza Fungi...why you should get to know them...

White fungi in organics is typically good for plants. Those spores are pretty much everywhere, so it's not necessary to culture it. You could jumpstart another pile of mulch with some fungus-plenty material from another mulch pile, I suppose, but I don't know how much of a benefit it would...

Mycorrhiza Fungi...why you should get to know them...

If you're running a living soil, you don't want it to get totally dry.

    Living Soil Wicking Beds

No kidding! I have made liquid fertilizer out of that compost pile. One gallon of soil soaked with a half-gallon of water gave me maybe a quart of brown runoff, which made two gallons of fertilizer (watered down). I kept a couple mothers alive in quart pots of depleted soil for nearly a year...

    Living Soil Wicking Beds

I hear ya. That's where I'm at. I've put years and years worth of leaves and grass into this pile of dirt, as well as most kitchen and garden vegetable waste. It's basically a pile of humus with some sand, biochar, and native bentonite mixed in. Super hot stuff. These sativa-leaning plants have...

Thinkin to mg this what ya think

It does look like more than just Mg on the first pics (I see P, K, Mg). My gut says Ca is doing a lockout, but you talk about it NOT being that. Not sure what to say. Might be why you're getting weird responses.

    Living Soil Wicking Beds

Oh yeah, lots of foxtail! Chem4 x Choc Diesel, if that contributes. Got a couple dozen nanners on it, too--just plucked their bracts off (last couple weeks before all pistils discolored). This one had the light switched before sexual maturity, but sprouted pistils about mid-January. About 11...
