    A question about sunlight

I would think sunlight even on a overcast day is better than any MH/HPS light in terms of spectrum. I don't think it would be much better than LED light though. I use this chart on the aquarium hobby a lot when people try and say MH has a much better spectrum than LEDs, just to show how good the...

    question about kelvins

My opinion on Kelvin is they are useless for what we do. 2 different bulbs with the same kelvin rating can have drastically different spectral outputs but when the phosphors are mixed they can have the same kelvin rating, meaning 1 bulb may work much better than the other even though they have...

25 watt diodes, any hydro companys use these

Luminus was sold to China a few months ago. :( I know not everything from China is bad, but I have ordered literally thousands of LEDs from china, and 90% fall outside their stated spectrum and I have a lot of failures and DOAs with China LEDs...

    First time DIY LED grow

You can't really add a pressurized fan to channel aluminum, those work best on boxed aluminum like Steve uses. There are 2 'computer' fans mounted on the top left of the light if you look closely at the pictures of the light in the box. These fans put out 125cfm each using 12v/1.3a that came out...

25 watt diodes, any hydro companys use these

You are right.. I should have phrased it better. I meant every 'custom' aquarium or grow multichip that I have seen comes from china. I wouldn't use the Cree multichips for either hobby myself, but I do know others do with some success. Cree is more about general lighting and not making lights...

25 watt diodes, any hydro companys use these

They have been selling 25w, 50w, and 100w multichips for many years in the aquarium hobby. Some have even designed a 'dream chip LED' for aquariums. Biggest issue with every multichip I have seen other than a Kessil is they are made in china and the spectrums listed do not match reality when you...

Trippiest strain you've smoked? Let's hear your experience!

Most potent strain I have had was a 'thai stick' back in the late 90's. I remember when I got it I thought I got ripped off. It was just brown looking, no real crystals, and lite smell. It was $60 and 1/8th which was the going price for the good stuff at the time. Me and a friend were both...

What does an 8th go for where you live?

$30 for average stuff, $45 for top of the line.

:) You got me beat, that is one cool looking pattern.

    First time DIY LED grow

I don't quite remember exactly, my friend has all the receipts, but off the top of my head this is what I remember. I hadn't actually posted the ratio before, just the spectrums. 6ea of 420nm, 430, 445, and 455 (royal blue) 6 cree warm whites 20 cree 630nm 12 'china' 640/650 multichips 36 OSRAM...

    First time DIY LED grow

I have a friend who has a CA medical card that allows him up to 99 plants. After talking with him about it for many years he finally decided to try growing instead of buying his medicine at the clubs. My background is in reef aquariums and I have built hundreds of LED lights for other people...

120w Seven-Band LED Stealth Grow Scrog(Lst) Nirvana Northern Lights

Just taking a guess as I have never seen those lights in person to see how they work, it sounds like one of the drivers has died. As long as the light is easy to open and work on you should be able to replace the driver in under 30 minutes and under $50 if it is as simple as I hope it is.

Safe to say LED technology is almost or equal to HID's?

I agree Bumping Spheda about efficiency of blue LEDs and color rendition on a reef tank. We prefer a blue look to mimic nature at a certain depth in the ocean, and wanting that blue look is what leads to killing corals with too much light when using Royal blue LEDs. That is why the light I made...

Safe to say LED technology is almost or equal to HID's?

I come from a different hobby that has been using LEDs for a decade now (Reef Aquariums). When LED lights first came out (PFO Solaris) they cost around $3000 and used 1w LEDs. Today I can build a better light using 3w LEDs for under $200. As far as intensity, SPS corals require much more intense...

    Help! High Humidity

Found the problem and fixed it and now everything seems to be working much better. I had used an insufficient power supply for the inline fans and it died shortly after I left, which is why nothing changed. I swapped out power supplies and made ducting for the intake that goes outside and it...

    Help! High Humidity

Well, sad to say, things didn't improve. I removed the intake from the outside vent, removed 2 intake fans and made them 'in line' fans on the exhaust which goes outside through the 6" vent now. The exhaust feels like a leaf blower on low setting, lots of air coming out now. I have about 250cfm...

    $500ish LED budget..

PAR reading at the screen is between 500-600 and the screen is 12" below the lights. PAR at the top of the plants which is 6" below the light is around 950. This is without making the proper math corrections to compensate for the Apogee meter not measuring the blue spectrum accurately. The...

    $500ish LED budget..

Yes, 3w LEDs, but all running at 700mA (so 2.1w). If you push 3w LEDs at 3w you get so little extra light output while using much more power usage. 5% more light pushing almost another watt each to them and reducing the lifespan by 1/2 just isn't worth it for me. From my testing with a PAR meter...

    $500ish LED budget..

I built this one for $450, uses Cree, OSRAM, and Philips LEDs (420nm, 430nm, 445nm, 460nm, 630nm, 640nm, 650nm, 660nm, and a few warm white LEDs to cover any missing minor spectrums) with meanwell drivers. 215w to run and took me about 1 hour to assemble.

    Help! High Humidity

Thanks for the responses everyone! We have 2 oscillating fans in the box, one in the back left, one in the front right, and 2 fans on top blowing down on the canopy/LEDs. I think the 'in box' air circulation is sufficient (we are ripping leaves do to the high air flow), it is the exhaust that...
