I run multiple 1000 watt hps lights. I cool the hoods with inline fans. My lights are 8-12 inches away from the top of canopy. Any closer and they burn up. Any farther away is a waste of resources hence inefficient. Period

You should strive to replace all the air in 2-4 minutes. If i needed to replace all the air in my, say 15 x 15 room, "3-4 times/ minute" I would need a fan rated at 7200 cfm. If I replaced all the air in this room once in 3 minutes I would need a 600 cfm fan. ya dig

I would do what Nate said, plus wrap the duct with black plastic or sutton to block any light leaking through the duct. One thing I will say, when checking for light leaks outside your grow, make sure it's at night and let your eyes adjust to the darkness. Spend 5-10 minutes in the dark so...
