I manage mine by using plastic milk crates under my plants to bring them higher to the light or sawhorses and a piece of wood. no need to lower the light, raise the shorter plants.

Bigger pot with some pro=mix and add some water crystals to the mix. Soak the crystals in a bucket of water for a few hours first so they swell up and then add to mix and add plant.

When I plant mine outside, I use 2 five gallon pails of pro-mix per hole. I add a bottle of osmokote slow release fert., a bag of water crystals and a small bag of guano and worm castings to 2 bales of pro-mix. I rarely have to touch my plants from planting to harvest time.
