    Cooling Thoughts ...

Yes, with the same amount of active cooling, lower running cobs. When you take a look at the data cree provides, it states that a cob running on 25 degrees has a 17% increase on flux. Every second, minute and hour of every day. The increase of flux from 3070 Z4 to 3070 AB is just a few percent...

@stardustsail that is a fine piece of art!

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

I am curious... There are some interesting drivers of meanwell but they have not enough voltage, but enough amps. What happens with the efficiency of a 3070 when you use such a driver? 1400 ma and only 36 volts (in stead of 38/40)?

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Well, I did not decided yet. Wanted to grow with 8x or 6x 600 watt hps, but this thread convinced me that led is the better option for me. So now I am going for led, first 40 pcs @50 watts with active cooling. Did not decide how to build those 40 by the way.

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Thanks for the calculations. If i am reading your calculations right, the 3070 is still better than the 3590 in terms of efficiency. Or am I missing something? It generates almost twice the lumen, but I am more intested in the pars and efficiency.

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

O cool, you are going to test those leds. Do you already know when? I am very curious about the differences. 2700K Z4 are not offered to me because I said I was interested in the 3000K. But I could ask my contacts if they have a few laying around. Are you interested in them? In only one for...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Supra, have you already taken a look at the newest bin of the cxa3070, the AB? Is that just the old Z4 or is it truly better than the Z4 regarding par and/or efficiency? 80 pcs of the AB are offered to me at an very affordable price, going to decide on monday if I will buy them. I only need 40...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Few hours back I downloaded the datasheet for the 3070 3000k, I see that there is a new (highest) bin for the 3000K: AB that gives 8500-9130 lumens. The Z4 gives 2% less lumens less at 25C than in a older datasheet, now 7945-8534 lumen. Today I received an offer from mouser to buy 55 cree's...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Well...so much for "normal" dealers. Just talked to one in my country. MOQ is 100 pcs unless they have some on stock. They do not often have stock, so you have to be lucky. I see that Mouser sells the 2700k with a MOQ of 55 (so they say on their website). 55 is doable with the right amount of...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

A company who sells leds not through a webshop to everybody. I just contacted one in my country and asked them for a quotation and minimal orderquantity. I am aslo interested in the 3070's. I will let you know what they offer me.

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Couldn't you contact a normal dealer that has no webshop were you can order? Maybe they will supply the 3070's per 50 pieces.

Thinking of a new light ..

I read the post of DSD and worried about the electrical company could tell that there a disturbance and a possible grow. I thought that was in a different thread (one about drivers). In the block diagram of meanwell it states that a emi filter and rectifier is used (in almost every driver from...

Thinking of a new light ..

Great work SDS...very enspiring for me. You have inspired me to build my own light. But I want it with active cooling and want it silent. I came across some nice active cooling modules which do not make much noice: 21 db or 39 db (I think). I bought some and tested it, it can be dimmed to...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Cool...your own spectrometer, I would also want one to play with. I recently bought a spectrometer of public labs, low cost and hopefully it works a bit (i did not received him). If you find an efficient Chinese led with the right spectrum en enough par, you can use it for sure. I am curious if...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Cool design... Are those cobs you have there, Chinese? They look like the ones I used to use for my business. If they are, you might want to check if they have the right color. I thought mine were 5000K (i bought them as 5000K) but at a qualitytest it appeared they were 7000K. Chinese quality...

Thinking of a new light ..

Great pics SDS. What is the soundlevel of it when it fully is operational? Did you use silent fans or is that of no use in that casing?
