Soil is the most forgiving, when dealing with that many plants... you need all the leeway possible. Large scale hydro is definitely do-able. I'd suggest staying away from aero... that's a lot of misters/pumps with way too many possible points of failure. I'd go more towards the ebb/flow...

You can paint the windows(it takes numerous coats) or you can use 1 layer of aluminum foil to cover the windows. I'd think a board looks more awkward than either of those. There are also pull/peel(sticky) films you can apply to windows, but they don't usually block 100% of light.

You guys should learn about torrents. Streaming web video is mostly shit. On my connection I can download an entire episode(standard TV def) in under 10 minutes. Or get the 720p HD version in under 20 minutes, which looks crisp on a HD TV. No choppy/blocky-ass/advertisements/whatever for me...
