What's the recommended distance between the LED's and the plants? It's usually a bit prohibitive which is why I've yet to try them out.

I should have said try Nick's. Yes that's them. I think they are 1 or 1.1 litre and I put loads of holes in the bottom. No point using perlite for drainage and not letting it drain. I use a hot poker to make the holes but a drill would do it.

TBH I've never checked the soil ph. Unless the soil states on the pack that it is for acid or alkaline loving plants you should be fine just taking care of the water. If you are concerned it may be wrong then you could check the ph of the water after it has passed through the soil and adjust the...
