I'd say try a few different products if it's not the strain that is causing the difficulty. You already had success with super thrive so try one or two clones using something like ez-clone. There is always room for improvement even though it's a pain in the butt at times...it will be worth it...

I think dwc is relatively simple provided you do your homework. What I like is the simplicity of the setup and that there are no chances of springing a leak. Just a bucket and an air pump and you're on your way.

PROMIX is my fav...pH balanced...you can't fuck it up. As mentioned, I find 6.5 to be the best for soil to avoid lockout...get that shit on lock. Lockout will make you think you have all kinds of problems but it is a simple fix.

You already got your answer...fishing line tied around the perimeter at 2' and 4' works great. Also, mix a jug of water with rotten eggs, garlic, and the hottest peppers you can find. Pour this around the perimeter...DONE! Works every time.
