I don't think democrats or republicans will legalize weed. The answer is in the third parties. Both libertarian and Green Party candidates are for legalizing weed. Why don't we get some of them in congress and work from there.

Hemp/Cannabis became illegal because of Lumber lobbyists, not jazz musicians. They used the excuse that minorities would end up seducing white women in order to scare people into thinking that hemp/mj was bad. But the "morality" was not the issue, it was a fiscal decision.

Politicians know very well that drugs aren't as harmful as they say they are, and they know prohibition causes the crime. However, they make money off of the DEA and are going to keep it around until they don't. Under the guise that drugs are bad mind you. At least that's my opinion.
