Look at your grouping though. The us has a region with rates worse than most of the Latin American rates. You're also judging (yeah judging) Mexico in a group that includes Brazil. World wide I have heard it is something between 1 in 4 and 1 in 3 but I'm not sure if that estimate is based on which strain of hsv. I have seen what I consider a credible source (but not peer reviewed) that NYC has a 1 in 4 prevalence of genital hsv-2.

it's not really a racial slur, it is a dated and ignorant phrase couched in racist terms, but the original version makes clear what the phrase was intended to convey:

"Snake in the Woodpile"

a concealed hazard in a prosaic place, danger from a location where safety was assumed.

the putative "nigger" hiding in the woodpile is implied to be awaiting his chance to leap out at the person fetching wood, which in the historical context was usually a woman, presumably a white woman.

racist, yes, inappropriate, certainly, but most likely the phrase was used solely to trigger your easily predictable response.
