What are some possible methods of isolating terpens? I've been doing a lot of research about their interaction with cannabinoids and I want to re-introduce terpenoids to my finished extracts.
Does anyone have or a tech that they use or a suggestion of where to look for a good tech? I've heard mention of an "isolator" and "capsulator" but haven't come across anything convincing. Thanks!
We are working it from different angles.
We use a vacuum purge to minimize losses, and end up with an extract that smells and tastes like the original material, despite losses.
Steam has been used for centuries to extract the mono and sesquiterpenes, to produce both essential oils and hydrosols. Check out The Essential Oils, Vol 1, by Guenther.
We've discussed building a steam extractor, and have visited steam extractors, and discussed joint projects, where they extract the mono and sesquiterpenes using steam, and we follow up with a solvent for the diterpene cannabinoids.
The open question, is how damaged will the diterpenes be by the heat and water from the steam.
We've visited places that simply mix what ever terpenes they desire into their extracts, which they obtain from commercial suppliers.
Kenny, at Trichome Technologies, is working on capturing the lighter terpenes in a cold trap and reintroducing them to the extract after solvent purging under vacuum. We've discussed corroborating on a project.
