I always thought it was one of those trendy sayings with no substance, but it's true.. motorcyclists are notoriously hard to see, so by having loud pipes it allows motorists to know they're coming.
at least that's what I was told by a biker, and it sounded good to me..

i have not found this to be so.

the inattentive driver, one who is texting, rocking out to his latest jam pumped to 11, or is shouting at his kids will not see a bike until he rolls right over it.

loud pipes are better at concealing the sounds of approaching cars from the rider than alerting the drivers to your presence.

plus, some of us have neighbors and would prefer they not have to wake up every time i get on my bike to go fishin at 4 in the morning.
