TGA supersoil and base mixes in the bag are peat based as well, so definitely a GO!

see heres the problem i keep running into. one person says yes, one person says no. my point is yes peat moss has NO nutrient value but neither does most organic mixes. isnt that the point of adding all that stuff to the mix? maybe add a little extra ingredients or more SS to base? i dont see why thats not a option. im new to the super soil idea so i might be missing something here....

roots is already regarded as hot, meaning its peat moss plus additives, that you then additionally amend to make Super Hot. if you can recreat roots organic starting with peat moss, go for it. what are you going to use as base soil for seedlings? as peat moss will probably leave them hungry early on.

well ive been using promix lately and like it but would like to give super soil a try. and would like to use promix as my base. could either make a slightly hot base out of promix as well with some basic nutrients in it or liquid feed it till it reaches the super soil. is the only reason promix or other peat moss bases cant be used because it doesnt have enough base nutrients in it? and if so could you just add extra nutrients to make it work?

was just watching subcools school of dank super soil vids and actually he says hes done it with sunshine mix which is pretty much what im talking about using. he said it works ok just not quite as good as roots or biobizz. might try it still. gonna look at roots organics and see what it has that i can add to the promix and see how it works. and ya i know you can change up super soil and try different stuff but im just tired of guess work. guess you would say i might as well just do it his way lol.

It wouldn't be "subcool/tga super soil" but it would be an amended mix. Sub didn't invent amended soil but his mix is fucking amazing and he is willing to share it with all of us. Most growers, specially outdoor, have a mix and a lot of them keep it kinda secret but they are all similar to a degree. Sub has built his recipe over time and the trial and error has been done already(thanks sub). Like mike said the point of super soil is taking good soil and making it super. Roots and FF are good soil on there own, I'm sure way more people go straight off the shelf to the pots with these than use it as base for amended mixes so no better place to start a super mix from. With promix it wouldn't be as strong and could potentially have a different final N-P-K than normal SS...or maybe it wouldn't cook right cause the base microbes weren't there and the amendments won't react on there own...who knows just thinking out loud. But I'm sure someone has their own promix version of SS that works. It would be super airy and light that's for sure.

all the microbes are there. just not a real strong mix to start with so you would have to add to the mix what ever its mixing. i learned a LOT watching the school of dank videos. subs the man, spoke for hours showing pictures, explaining in detail, and answering questions. i learned a lot tonight and im still not done watching the vids. thanks sub!

I was thinking about adding a little coco coir to my supersoil mix... along with the Roots base soil... any opinions?
I was also thinking about adding some soluable potash, for a little extra boost when they hit flower... any opinions on that?
Other than that, I was gonna throw in a small bag of OregonISM XL... my thinking being that more microbes and bennies the better.

I was also debating adding coconut coir with my roots soil.....adding coconut coir will tone down roots if its hot.....this would be okay but isn't necessary....I went for straight roots in the end...adding mycos is never a bad idea....adding coconut coir with roots 1 to 1 for seedlings a good idea but older plants can take straight roots...as far as adding potash if using charge pack probably not needed, making your own SS, give it a try....Peace

you can add all the inert ingredients you want, but it's not really going to do shit but water down your SS. The key to SS is it's strong, you put peat or coco in there you are goigng to need to adjust your ingredients (adding more ewc, bloodmeal, bone meal, ES, etc.)
I bitch at people a lot especially when it's their first run at SS and some how you thing that you can already improve it.... start with doing it correct, then adjust one you become skilled.
People fuck that part up all the time, then blame the recipe.... just sayin'.
