World Of Hempy

I stand (or sit) corrected. ... I realized I should have phrased it better after writing.

What I should of said was, 'I don;t think 1KW's are needed for 2L's SOG' .. but as you have shown it's works great if you can vent and have the space.

Thanks for pointing this out!

edit:

However, I would note that because 1KWs have a much wider light footprint, to use all that lumens one would need a much wider row of 2L's, maybe 10 -20 deep , in a 2L SOG it going to be very difficult to get in and water .. 600w provides a more manageable light profile to be able to get into water the things.

I've just read that 1KW have a footprint of about 5'x5' or 60"x60" ... thats 15 x 15 Hempys or 225 bottles. ... I like to space mine a bit so let say 14x14 but that still 196 Hempys to negotiate around and feed.

Lets say you are run the fewer number of 196 bottles. If it takes 20 seconds to feed each Hempy (3 in a minute) that 196/3 or 65minutes to feed them every time.

Its for primarily this reason that I suggest 1KW are better suited for larger and fewer plants that have been given some veg time... Although in this game, rules are made to be broken. ;-) LOL
No worries - I just was confused by your statement that they were too hot.

I think that it really depends on how far your light is from your tops. I have been slamming my 1000w (HTG Big Kahuna reflector - 27" X 33") at about 13-15" from the tops and it reduces the footprint and puts more of the lumens to work on the entire length of the COLA. I would say with my reflector and distance to the tops that the ideal footprint is more like 3.5' X 3.5'; that being said, more plants could be put under it but I would need to rotate the outers into the 3.5' X 3.5' 'ideal' footprint, or raise the entire reflector up to widen the footprint with less lumens throughout the useable footprint.

65 minutes of work every two days is not much though, especially if you average 12g per, which would be 5.25lb per run

so on your opinion if I go with 2X600's or 3x600's. how many 2l's could I reasonable fit that would cover a footprint for xxxl magnum hoods.
Again, I think it depends on the distance to the COLAs you want and how much light you want to concentrate on the length of the COLA versus wider footprint/sheer plant numbers. I am going to be ultimately running about 90-100 under two 1000w with reflectors of a similar size.

OK ... I think it may be acceptable to say a Magnum XXL 600W can cover 4'x4'. or 48"x48" .. 12x12 = 144 2LHempys

*Back of a ciggy packet working out* DONT HOLD ME TO IT.

realistically I would say between 100-120 or lower if you space them.
--------------------------------------------------

I just want to say that Magnum light profiles are completely different than regular hoods. I use my Magnum very close to the plants because of my height restrictions, I can only get 60 2LHempys max but I run less.

Sorry I can't give a better more definitive answer but the ambiguity comes from not knowing how high you may have the reflector and its footprint. Too many variables really for my small brain. You just have to go for it my friend.

--------------------------------------------
Hmmm. My experience tells me that 144 under ONE magnum 600w would be far too much light dispersal. But, as you stated, the distance of the reflector is the factor. I just don't think the outer extent of the 4' X 4' footprint would be really strong enough to grow without religiously rotating plants into the center of the footprint. Not saying it can't be done, I just would rather try to concentrate a ton of light into a smaller footprint.

Ended up buying another 1000w ballast/bulb that will replace my 600w digital last night... 2 X 1000w FTW!! Maybe I'll run three bulb now (2 X 1000w, 1 X 600w) LOL

That plushberry looks awesome! Its def gonna be in my next order. Anyone ever try positronics seeds? They got somme pretty good looking stuff.

I think I'm going to throw all 3 of my next seedlings into the remaining 1.5g hempy. Trim them down to single colas, it's technically around 2l per plant this way, other than a hermie (which I'm known to do!) it should work out maybe :)

Absolutely, as I mentioned I could 'possibly' fit 60 under my Magnum so 144 would be out of the question. ... However, you don't have to look to far for data and anecdotes quoting 4'x4' as being the effective footprint of a 'regular' 600W hood. ... my experience does not bare this out, at least for my SOG with a flat canopy.

Lets say under a Magnum you could fit 64 Hempys ..Thats 8x8 bottles or 32"x32"inches ..... Giving an effective footprint of just 2.7ftx2.7ft

So maybe I'm missing something here or the charts are BS. I don't know. lol.

Edit:
And even 64 IMO would be ambitious with 600w. Magnums can handle 1kw so I might go with the 1KW to get that 8X8Hempy canopy. .. who knows.

. . . . Btw moebius how that test run of ken's gdp going? I was thinking of getting some from the tude.
Sweet plant ... Solid Bud ... No purple yet. 1 plant is slightly darker and more crystal covered than the other. ... They don't stretch much after the switch. I'm happy with them and although they don't look like they'll be the largest yielders I can see myself probably doing 3 or more large runs with the Pheno I got.

I havent really kept a note of when I put them into bloom, I guess once it gets purple it will be nearly ready. Will post a pic in an hour or so.

Thanks for all the kind words and +REP everyone. I owe a lot of my success to W.O.H. Each and every one on this thread has contributed in some way and it speaks for itself. You guys are all amazing growers and together we make this hobby a lot more fun and inspiring :)

I wholeheartedly concur. It takes gumption to start growing the herb but to share pics, info and experiences with the community is really great stuff.

I think you guys on W.O.H are what RIU should be about. Too many threads where people forget this is FUN.

Nice work people. :leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf:Bring on 2013 :leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf:

haha i looked a the "bring on 2013" thing hoping it was a link to a picture of your grow. Thanks again for getting me into hydro moebius, i liked doing the hempy's but now im on to coco pebbles. Im always back checking out things though

oh shit. Ken's cut. What's the 411 on her? I.e veg time, lights nutes etc
No veg time, more or less a seedling but stays really short. ... Shes had to deal with light leaks and poor diet. Atm just gets a regular strength bloom feed. When I move to her clones I'll use GH Flora (Lucas)

I'm not in the right corner of the world to get a cutting, this was the seeds he's selling through Attitude.

Certainly the hardest buds Ive come across. NO EXAGGERATION. but yield looks like it may be a little less than average. Although im way too early in to make any final determination.

Its going to have great bag appeal
