Is there anything that would have stopped Adam Lanza from the massacre?

with all the talk on "gun control" why is it that I have never heard anything about "ammunition control"... I mean, if the price of a .223 round jumped up to some exorbitant amount would people still be using them? Put some regulations on the type and quantity of bullets and make the home reloading set-ups illegal so that any and all ammo purchases need to be documented. Share this info with the proper authorities and actually make use of the ATF by having them check up on the red flagged people buying a certain type or certain quantity of ammo...
That would be unconstitutional. It would also never work.

Sooo mentally ill folks are not responsible for their actions? Their parents are?

What evidence do you have that his mom just left guns laying about?

If my 63 year old mentally handicapped cousin shoots someone its my dead Aunts fault?
Do not mentally impaired individuals require some type of responsible supervision, especially when guns are available??? ... I think that you are aware of the fact that in order to behave in a a responsible manner when one is living with an impaired person, one needs, of course, to be indeed alive!

At this point there is still a high degree of speculation regarding the facts in this case, however it is obvious that the kids Mom had guns...the troubled youth had access to these guns...The guns should not have been accessible to the troubled young adult …irresponsible Mom...??? No?

Among the questions: Why did his mother, a well-to-do suburban divorcee, keep a cache of high-power weapons in the house? What experience did Lanzahave with those guns? And, above all, what set him on a path to go classroom by classroom, massacring 6- and 7-year-olds?

You think this will reduce school massacres? How?
By relieving a great deal of stress from people entering adulthood. We live in a dog eat dog world, this would effectively make it not so. I believe that stress is what lies at the root of this insanity. Stress is what activates the epigenetic trait that otherwise would have been expressed as heightened compassion. This stress is felt long before entering adulthood actually, it is felt at home by a stressed out dad stressing his family out and his kids then go to school and bully other kids, stressing them out. The social construct is stress. Stress seems to be what is shared more than anything.

The undertone is "oh, you lazy ass, you want to live off of my work, you ought to share in my misery". When someone who lives by this sentiment is laid off because he is no longer needed he shares even more stress, but he is never rewarded, he just lives his entire life under pressure and puts everyone around him under pressure. Our social construct is seeking to find how many seats the rock bottom can accommodate, instead of raising the standard for humanity. What I am suggesting, is that instead of life's plan resembling a maze with cheese at the end, making mice of men, we ought to embrace the fact that there is not enough work to go around, yet there is plenty of food and ammunition. Why create jobs? Why not make everyone's work day shorter and instead of making more bullets, we invest in renewable energy and water desalination?

Seriously, why is it that we are trying to create jobs? I would think we ought to do the exact opposite, get the work done and fucking relax, all of us. AND SMOKE A FUCKING JOINT! Didn't you always want your kids to have a better life than you? We have worked so hard and what have we created for the inheritors of the world? They are stressed. That is what I think. I think this kid was not just crazy, he was stressed the fuck out and needed a break. The whole fucking world is in a pressure cooker stressed the fuck out. This kid burst, just like that stressed out over-achiever in Aurora Colorado. Just like those stressed out kids that were bullied in Columbine. Just like all those guys who came home from Iraq and killed their cheating wives. Stress is what we all have in common when we burst.

It is time to raise the bar on the collective subconscious.

we need to get serious about mental health in this country. no more "whoops, the hospital closed. off to prison with you." no more refusing to hospitalize and treat people, no more telling parents and family members "sorry, we can't do anything until he commits a crime, and when he does, we'll make him an inmate".

it's time to cut the shit and take mental illness seriously. we need to fund it, we need to research it, and we need to treat it more seriously than we've been doing it. if we would take it more seriously and fund certain types of research and testing, we'd be able to come up with better ways to keep everyone safe, and maybe offer some of the mentally ill a better quality of life at the same time. what in the fuck is wrong with us as a society to make us fund washing bird shit off statues of lincoln but refuse to fund mental health for the safety and peace of our communities?

If this sort of thing is to be prevented in future, how can that be accomplished?
I live in the uk and as you know guns are a no no, if this was the same in America and guns weren't so readily available maybe this terrible tragedy wouldn't have happened. I know you all like your guns and you get pleasure from using them but their is obviously a problem with them being so widely available, you talk about mentally ill people especially those who have not been diagnosed we have them here but because they just can't pick a Gun up from anywhere our shootings are few and far between. My husband had a shotgun, when we had a major falling out with our neighbours the police confiscated it straight away and refused to re new his licence or give him the gun back. The laws are very strict here and I'm thankful that they are their would defiantly be more shootings if we had your laws. Our problem is knives we have recently had a young man stabbed to death on a playing area where an organised fight was arranged, my son was asked to attend this fight but he was working late and I thank god he was.

we have never had a problem with crimes in schools and our schools have no real security their has never been any need because no one has a gun here and anyone caught with one would be locked up for a long time.

I appreciate your response, and your civility.

Gun banning won't work in the US absent a constitutional amendment revoking the second amendment. In the US there is no real school security either.

Not too many years ago you could order a rifle or a pistol from a mail order catalog and the gun would be delivered to your door step. No background check, no waiting, nothing. High schools taught proper shooting technique at indoor shooting ranges. Students brought their own guns to school for these shooting classes, tyically .22 caliber rifles.

One more point. Don't be afraid to visit the US, it is a very safe place. Much safer than Europe. Statistics prove my point.

his mother, thats who could have stopped him. being a good parent is important.

Absolutely.
There's probably truth in this as CBD appears to be one of the most potent anti psychotics around. Meanwhile he was probably loaded up on all kinds of drugs that can and do cause severe psychotic breaks and seem to be involved in every single mass shooting that appears to completely lack motive ever.

I don't know about how the media has present Lanza in the US, in AUS, he's a typical lone nut gunman with no social skills, a paranoid delusional doomsday prepper mother, who armed her household to the teeth waiting on the apocolypse. Theres something about this incident that just stinks to high heaven. I'm thinking behavioural modification.

I own two of them. They help.

The simple reality, though, is that nothing is going to stop these things from happening. Crazy people are going to do crazy things. Think back to all of the massacres that have happened; all done by crazy people.
guns are expensive, jobless adam lanzas can't afford them.

a gun safe would have prevented this.

You no doubt will get the true story before we do. The media here has learned to take you down the dark tunnel of fear and speculation, to sell more ad space.

I'm not so sure, over the last couple of years the media in AU is becoming more and more consolidated, with most reports on TV, just a rehash of what US broadcasters have put out. Sometimes word for word. Investigative journalism here is all but dead, there are a few diamonds in the rough that are willing to go out on a limb, but for the most part its the same old shit

How do you know they weren't locked up tight and the guy just knew the combination or where the key was to get to them?
