found this on another thread. looks like Hydroton the brand may be being discontinued but there will be other mediums that are the same with a different label on the bagMy last bag of hydroton read that it was made in Germany, which is a shame since the kiln fired aggregate plants in the US are suffering these days.
I just switched to the Dutch produced Gold Label Hydro Pebbles which are basically the same thing with exception to a couple items. They guarantee that no heavy metals are leached into their products. Hytroton wont say this. They are also more irregular in shape so they dont slide and shift around near as much. Since I feel the LECA / Weed Barrier construction is superior to the False Bottom method, this is important to me. The large bag was also less expensive than Hydroton. This brand can be found at most hydroponics supply stores.
I checked it out and yes it is quite pricey. dbkick you are right on the money on prices. I was hoping to get info on what medium you all are using and why. I am new to hydroponics so any any and all advice is always welcomed.if you have the coin dyna rok II by dynagro. the silica can't hurt.
lol!Lightly Expanded Clay Aggregate is not going anywhere.
Now peat moss is a different story.I think peat moss / perlite is a great, overlooked medium. If you put...........
Why would anyone stop buying it? It's cheap, easy to find, and if you dump it in your yard, it doesn't make it obvious you were growing pot (huge pain in the ass to get rid of rockwool and hydroton - archeologists will be finding that shit) Its also really easy to bounce between soil and hydro - coir seems to drain too fast to keep manually watered. Now peat moss is a different story.
People PLEASE stop buying it.
Because peat moss is a nonrenewable resource......I can not judge as I used to buy pro-mix by the pallet.....Why would anyone stop buying it?
