Hydroton Discontinued

Lava rock...it's cheap enough that I'll toss it when I'm done. It takes a bit of washing, but I had no initial pH swings. And I can get it locally from a sand and gravel place and the guy has it all measured out and bagged if your using 3gal buckets or 5gal buckets.

Hydroton is being discontinued? not sure why they would do that since its one of the numbe rone mediums for hydroponic growing out there...
They got their material as a waste product from someone who was mining for something else. I don't remember what. The mine closed and their cheap supply is gone. The material is common all over the world. It's just baked clay. There are several manufacturers popping up. Some of them AREN'T making them round. Big improvement in my opinion.

I checked it out and yes it is quite pricey. dbkick you are right on the money on prices. I was hoping to get info on what medium you all are using and why. I am new to hydroponics so any any and all advice is always welcomed.
Hydrocorn is carried pretty much everywhere Hydroton used to be sold. I prefer it because it doesn't roll.
