RIP Hostess

Hope you save up your welding pennies, because it's going to end up costing you as an American taxpayer more than anyone else.

More unemployed people=more people in the system=higher taxes for everybody to pay for it.

Maybe you're down to pay for the rich fatcats to take bonuses, but me? I'd rather save my money for me and mine.

Wealth protects wealth. If you aren't born into the upper tier of the financial realm, then the chances of you rising to it are about the same as being struck by lighning.

Would the factories still be open today if there was no strike? yes or no
Would you take a 30% pay cut while your boss took a raise?

Shouldn't management, who already make a disproportionately high salary by comparison, foster some of the burden when it comes to cuts?

Do you think pensions are a bonus or an obligation?

Let's not forget that fat lazy americans will still feel the need to stuff their faces with garbage. The void in the market left by Hostess will be filled by someone else.

Hostess going under will create jobs elsewhere.

Because we can't compete with the rest of world someone making middle class pay wages stuffing Twinkies is asinine. Hostess main competitor is non-union and less than half price, you cannot compete with something like that especially in tight times. We will have many more examples of this in the coming years.
It's not stuffing the Twinkies. It's running the multi-millions of dollars of automated machinery that stuffs the Twinkies. Think 18,000 employees is a lot? You see their crap products EVERYWHERE! From a measly 18,000 employees? That's production, buddy. Those folks have to know those machines, how to troubleshoot the things or resolve product issues while needing maintenance or tech just for major issues.

there are probably 1 or 2 maintenance guys for ever couple hundred line workers. most those employees are mindless drones. i did production work for HP, among numerous other companies. it's really doesn't take much intelligence to do any of that type of work. half the employees at HP were temp workers.

It doesn't take that much intelligence to weld, no doubt robots can be made to do it if they don't already. Not to far off in the distant future your skills will be worth pennies per hour.

so what's the problem? :?
The problem is most workers are not unionized. When the unions strike and resist compromise they are selfishly driving this company into the ground. The other employees have talked but don't have a voice compared to the union. They would rather take a 20% pay cut then go unemployed ,but don't have a choice because of selfish union members. The union idiotically believes that liquidations means the company will be sold and they will continue working for a new employer under union conditions. The truth is that no one will touch that company with such a selfish one sided union. They argue by pointing out that they are skilled workers and if a company wants to produce a quality product they need the union workers. Wrong, a company wants profits with no head aches. Acquiring your union would be worse then a head ache, it would be a constant fight. If you are going to talk to the media maybe you should have picked your brightest. From what i have seen the members act like spoiled babies. I want to go to the mall, NOW!God forbid you work a job without a pension like most people, you need your pension doubled for every year you work. The money you pay in will never compare to what you get in return, stop crying.

waaahhhhh. so much whining.
If ya can't take the heat, then ya better go back to welding. :bigjoint:

You asked if I would rather be employed or not, well, why should I accept unfair business practices as part of that? Why can't I, and any other worker who feels they are being mistreated, express their dissatisfaction with the situation by striking and attempting to make a change? You people automatically assume that's somehow whining or that those people are lazy and greedy.

How sad that you bought the company lie hook, line, and sinker.

Quick question- Do you think the CEOs are going to use any of the profits they make off of selling the brands they own to help honor their obligations to the workforce? Or do you think their simply going to shrug their shoulders' and continue lining their pockets?

no, i do not think the CEO's will do anything but keep that money for themselves. did you think they wouldn't is the real question. and if so, why?

That's cool.

You'll be able to build some for our soon-to-be-overlords, the Chinese.

I hear there's a booming market for vintages in Asia.

Once people finally start listening to really smart dudes like you, ya know, and eliminate unions and all. We'll be ridin high! Wall Street will soar, the housing markets will roar in metro areas. Good times are here again, que the jazz music.

And then, 10 years later. After they've had a chance to bleed every last dollar they can out of their workers' and can squeez no more. They will uproot all their factories over to China or India or where ever else they can save a buck and proceed to give America the big FUCK YOU that they have been bottling up for oh so long.

Companies think only of the bottom line. You cannot allow them any more advantage than what they are already given naturally. Why give them a hand when all they want is to flip you the bird?
