and next up is white tail

biggest moose was yukon 68in
black bear that score sci gold
brown that almost booked
full curl dall sheep

60% of my spare time is hunting 40% is drift fishing for trout

SirGT - Nice looking ground blind - were it me, I'd spend some time cleaning up the leaves/branches inside so you can move around quietly & with a roof you will be hidden much better (less light to show your movements).

Yea, I'm going to clean up the leaved on the inside when I go back. I will add a roof at some point. What you think about a tarp for roof?

Too unnatural for my taste. Not only that, but probably noisy and a new one will smell like plastic big-time.
I would probably lean towards making one out of your camo netting & then putting a bunch of branches (w/ leaves if possible) on top.
It won't be water proof, but it will go a long way in making you more invisible.

I was going to go with building an all natural top like the rest of it, but the thing about it is, I was picking up like 15 feet trees to make the frame. Those nettings arn't even that big. I guess I could go around the woods looking for 20ft trees to make a half roof and then cover the rest with limbs with leaves. I'm not worried about the weather, I usually won't go during a major downpour. Light rains and snow is good, doesn't bother me any.

I was thinking about boxing the whole thing in with a roof and everything, but it seemed to turn out a lot bigger than I planned.

Butchering in the field is primarily the same, but you usually are working with the animal on the ground.
My main concern when parting out one is
A: Cleanliness - it is of paramount importance.
B: Butcher according to muscle groups. Do not just willy-nilly start hacking off pieces of meat without a plan - that's a sure way to end up with only burger to show for your efforts.

It really helps a lot to have a mentor - nothing like having someone that can answer your questions on the spot.

Don't know why the pic isn't rotated here since it is on my comp but this is my buddy standing in his front yard with his trophy from a 240 lb boar he took yesterday morning. He lives on the outskirts of town at a busy 4-way intersection so he decided to post the head up in the front yard and we spent our afternoon drinking beer and watching everyone stop two or three times while trippin' on it lol. Animal control even drove by and just shook his head. The most entertaining reactions were from those of the Muslim faith though imo.

Boar has a distinctive taste to me personally. They're stinky little buggers. Still good but i prefer sows. Much less gamey taste.

i don't really know HOW to describe the taste other than it's definitely not the "ham" you get at the store. Taste also depends on how it's cooked. Smoked is a favorite of mine (i like the flavor AND it's hard to fuck up your meat since we are generally drinking and smoking lol). i don't really like it fried but it makes AWESOME chile verde

As for learning to hunt them it's rather basic the way he does it. Find a trail and water and set up along it. If that doesn't work, he gets restless and goes ahead and stalks/bushwhacks with his partners (i haven't hawg hunted with HIM yet). They work together i.e., two guys post up while two walk around wide to an area that looks like it might make a good hawg bed and start flushing them out towards the two that are posted up. They're fast little buggers and mean as hell when pissed.

SOMETIMES, you can walk right up on them when they're bedded down. He took a sow that way a couple months ago. He was close enough that he couldn't use his scope so he just pointed and shot from 10-15 feet away.

My only suggestion is having a good large caliber sidearm because they WILL charge you if you only wound one.

EDIT: We neither one like using the dogs. Makes it too easy imo.

When I was in China, my wife's friends prepared wild boar, just killed that morning, and slow-cooked Chinese bbq style over an open spit. I would have to say with no bullshitting it was the absolute best meal I've ever had.

Hmmmm, i went to school with a woman who's traditional Chinese family moved here in the 40's and own the local Chinese food restaurant. Since i recently got back in touch with her at a class reunion, guess who i'm asking about this?

I was not unfortunately. I do know Anise and Sichuan peppercorns were involved. I have a feeling alot of the cooking involved local ingredients, as my wife's home is quite isolated.

I like looking at the pics of a hog hunter in argentina..dudes name is Dogoman if ya google him...I have been to 2 pigroasts and the food was outstanding...too 12 plus hours to cook though..heard if those pigs get loose ..2 weeks later they grow fur and tusks and go feral..assuing the taste is similiar to pig?
