http://news.yahoo.com/marijuana-legalization-victories-could-short-lived-022257328.html

read that story above (its from yahoo so its not spam/viruses)

it says a former advisor to the drug czar of the obama administration said he expects the obama administration to do anything they can to block the legalization from going through.

Im hoping he's just blowing smoke up our asses. I voted for obama the 1st time because i felt he was gonna be the president to back up the marijuana users given his stance before the 1st election and the fact he's used marijuana before and admitted to inhaling.

im hoping this wasnt a b.s. promise on the way to become president.

Any word on obama's reaction to the approval of legal marijuana in these two states?

Im really hoping for his support on this. i didnt expect him to do anything in the first term (could hurt his chances for re-election) but now that he's won the 2nd term im hoping to see some radical action on his part (most presidents make the most risky moves during their 2nd term when they arent concerned with being re-elected).

is there still hope or is this gonna be a war that wages on for decades? i thought we were at the light at the end of the tunnel?

I am not sure if you were paying attention to his first term at all, but he just straight up lied about supporting marijuana.
i dont care if he flipped because he thought it would hurt a 2nd term chance, fuck whats good for him.
do what you fucking say, not what the puppet masters tell you to do, or GTFO of office.

last thing i heard obama say about legalization, is that it wouldnt happen, or wasnt an option. somewhere along those lines..

like i said. in the first term presidents do their best to appeal to voters of BOTH dems and reps. thats why (in my opinion) he focused so heavily on jobs/our financial future and national healthcare. he did that simply for the sake of being able to point to it as a promise he kept that was good for all of the usa.

if you look in history almost all the major controversial efforts by a president happened in the 2nd term. you and i may think its sad to listen to the puppet masters but you gotta do what you gotta do. if i were the president id be trying my hardest to get a 2nd term as well.

im just wondering if the gloves are coming off for the 2nd term.

i dont blame him for what he said during the 1st term...he has to appeal to republicans as well because lets face it...whoever wins the presidency every election HAS TO have the support of at least SOME of the voters of the other party. you cant win by strictly appealing to your own party. thats why romney isnt president. he only appealed to the rich republicans and lied whilst doing so.

im just curious to know who has more info on this. id like to believe its gonna be different in the 2nd term based on what he originally said.

The people have spoken, the MAJORITY of the people voted it in, that is heart of democracy if we start disrespecting that the entire system is flawed
yeah its a democracy but we dont even elect presidents in a true democratic way (ie 1 person = 1 vote) instead we have an "electoral college" who REALLY decided who the president will be. popular vote hate obama winning 51% of america's vote...yet he won by nearly 100 electoral votes (303 for obama to 206 for romney)

some democracy we have.

Idk. im hoping obama will let WA and CO be since thats what they voted but what i really suspect is they wont allow actual retailers (or dispensaries...w/e you wanna call them) exist. they will do their best to snuff them out.

i dont think you REALLY NEED dispensaries anyways if its legal. either you can grow yourself or find someone who will sell you some pretty easily. im just hoping they dont show up to WA and CO and start busting people growing their own marijuana. thats my fear.

i do expect resistance from the gov't as far as dispensaries go.

what im really hoping for is an end to marijuana prohibition. how/when will this ever take place? my opinion: we need more states passing legalization. eventually it will cause problems (people flocking to these states where its legal and bringing it back home to sell) and thats how i think the convo will get started about ending the prohibition on marijuana. once the gov't sees the problems its creating with only SOME states being legal they will either attempt to rub out the legal states or put an end to prohibition to end the smuggling of the marijuana etc.

idk . im not an expert im just giving my opinion on how i see it playing out.

people WILL try to get rich in these legal states (hell theres already "im moving to CO" or "im moving to WA" threads on here!) by bringing the mj back to their home states and peddling it there. thats the nature of the beast. if you were a dealer and its legal in CO and WA wouldnt you go and grow it where its legal and bring it back home to charge $300-350 an oz? of course you would .its a smart "business" move.

so theres gonna some abuse of these new state laws and hopefully the gov't responds in the correct manner. instead of trying to rub out legalization they will promote it. tax marijuana and get this country out of debt. im CERTAIN if marijuana were legalized on a federal level and taxed like alcohol or cigarettes that the amount of $$$ marijuana would generate in taxes would be unheard of. were talking billions upon billions in the 1st year if legal in all 50 states.

marijuana is a huge industry and we (the usa) have a huge amount of debt.

its the answer.

Direct democracy has more problems than features.

Consider California and Prop 35. So few read it through to see what it was REALLY about, and voted it in six to one, an insanely huge margin for a state of contrarians. Pffff.

It was a perfect example of fools with votes.

But I tend to agree with those saying that Obama's government (Obama won't even need to involve himself) will stomp MJ initiatives. cn

Legalization is far from bad, gives people with real lives and shit at risk the benefit of not having it taken away because of something that shouldn't be illegal.

Now they'll have some real data to use in regards to total drug related arrests, number of jail beds used, cost to house total population, lots of good stats that can now be used after the first year of decriminialized cannabis. Thats huge. Hell, they might even have to lay off a PO or two in those States!

Wouldn't that be a fucking bummer if you got arrested for having like an ounce on Nov 5th? And now you are sitting in jail, about to be convicted and do some time while the rest of your state is enjoying their new found freedom. Or do they drop all current charges? What if you were convicted on Nov 5th?

They'll probably give you a cell with a real old guy, because you're grandfathered in. cn

People say that they want marijuana to be legal nationwide, but never really understood what it would do.

1.The weed will be grown wildly and sprayed with bullshit fertilizers like tobbacco.

2.the quality will go waaaaay down.

3.So it's legal nationwide, why not grow your own, right? nope! thats the whole point,if it's legal nationwide, the government does'nt want you growing your own, they want you to buy their down graded pot, bcuz if your growing your own, guess what? they don't get paid, and can't tax your plants.

So their will NEVER be a nationwide legalization of marijuana, justlegal enough so they can tax it,make money, and keep it illegal everywhere else so that they can make even more money off of throwing people in jail for it.I know it's pretty crooked, but what you expect from our wonderful, caring government.
