New York Bans Large Sodas

Hmm. Since 94 the mayor's office in NYC has been filled with republicans. Rudy then Bloomberg, the republican who pretends to be an independent. I don't remember any soda pop ban during the Dinkins and Koch years.

I agree it's asinine, pop freak can buy 2 larges that equal a jumbo, but it's not a horrible, dirty, liberal thing. In this case it's an anti-gun anti-freedom republican billionaire acting as a independent. Thing.
bloomberg is a republican now?

REALLYY?

REEALLYY!!??

oh wait, youre an idiot, sorry.

"In 2001, the incumbent mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, was ineligible for re-election, as the city limited the mayoralty to two consecutive terms. Several well-known New York City politicians aspired to succeed him. Bloomberg, a lifelong member of the Democratic Party, decided to run for mayor as a member of the Republican Party ticket." ~http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bloomberg

even the morons at wikipedia know that bloomberg is a democrat who put an R behind his name for convenience. he is no more a republican than David Duke (lifelong party switcher) Donald Trump (lifelong Trumplicrat, in that he only is interested in self-promotion) and arlen spectre.

Wow, 22 pages.

This is why I keep many a weapons in my home. For the day that some assholes push it over the edge and actually come to my door wanting to take my freedom and way of life away just so they can push theirs.

Either I die that day, or all of them do. Either way, that day I will be truely free. Fuck your politics. I no longer have an argument, just stay the fuck away from my front door.

Here it is again! the romantic notion that a citizen will protect his "freedom" from his front porch. And they will protect it to the death = cold dead fingers and all. Spandy, when the government wants your freedom you will give it up and maybe whimper a bit about it.

Is your "way of life" really so tighlty bound with your "freedom" to purchase 64 ounce Pepsi? Really dude?

And if the government decides that this ban works, what do you recommend that the government bans next in their quest to watch out for us?
Fluoroquinolones, I would still have a livelihood if it wasn't for this shit. Not mention house, retirement and my ability to contribute to my local economy.

Banning fluroquinalones is against our American way of life. I mean what's next? first they come for your Cipro and then they will be pounding on your door demanding your aspirin, and then, who knows, maybe your viagra and your guns.

But according to Can'tdo on many previous threads, the army will come down on you with a whole division of men, multiple tanks, the air force will drop LGB's on you day and night, The Marines will appear and SEAL team 6 will repel through your windows, and then if you still aint dead, the drop the JDAM on yer ass. Just so they can take away your .22.
Has he said that?

Canndo has told me that no man in jackboots will ever step foot on your property to try and collect a gun. He says the government will tax/fine/garnish you, take away any licenses you have, seize property, and seize bank accounts.

Personally, I could see it going either way...or both. Nothing the government ever does surprises me anymore.

This is how the government works, if you have never seen it, pray you never do. NoDrama is mistaken. I told him that a rag tag collection of gun toters who believe they can conquer the greatest military that the world has ever known with their 12 guages and .22s is incorrect in its assumptions.

He doesn't get the fact that it would be foolish for government to ever sent their jack booted non-people door to door when they can do far better having you deliver your weapons to them. The object is to apply pressure, not force. The object is to induce you to make a choice between one set of things you hold dear - your house, your bank account, your car, your driving priveleges, and another - your guns.

Being as they took my big Mtn. Dew away, the next thing will be medium Mtn. Dews. A few years after that they will ban sale of pop in cases and twelve packs. Of course 2 litre bottles have been illegal for a long time by now, so forget about buying those. After that, 6 packs will be made unavailable.
You can still buy as many single cans as you want though...

They will then move on to fast food restaurants. In the very near future, you won't be able to order double cheeseburgers. They will be considered too fattening. Of course you will still be able to buy two single burgers. You could order 20 single burgers if you wanted to, just not 10 double burgers.

*As a side note, you can still make double cheeseburgers at home...If you have a valid "double" stamp. You can buy those anywhere that taxes are collected.

When things get to that point, the people who won't give up their guns will organize quickly. Although their numbers as a percentage may be small, it will still be a lot of people. They are not going to sit back and wait for the govt. to come looking for them. They will be well organized, heavily armed, and know the surroundings and terrain around them better than the troops. They will also gain numbers when our govt. starts fighting friends, neighbors and relatives. I think you will be surprise at the number of people willing to fight when they realise the govt. doesn't care about it's people as much as everybody thinks.

Well, at least the smaller drinks will eliminate terrorism in NY... What self respecting muslim is going to blow himself up with less than a 24oz drink???

Allah promises virgins, not soft drinks, they have to be prepared!!

The thing is this. If we had only a few obese people in the U.S., if the epidemic of obesity was not so bad, if corporations would quit inducing folks to over do it, if parents would control their children, if adults would ease up on their habits then nothing would be necessary and I would say nothing except that this local law was silly.

but when people demonstrate their inabilty to control themsleves then it is time for government to step in and try.
You mean like how the nanny-state government dutifully stepped in to protect us from foolishly smoking marijuana and thereby risking going Reefer Madness-style berserk or perhaps inspiring white women to crave the affections of black jazz musicians as Harry Anslinger astutely pointed out to Congress? There are still poor dumb, brainwashed bastards who accept the benevolent intentions of marijuana prohibition to this day!! Government still protecting us from our dumb, self destructive pot head inclinations since 1937!! No sir, I say the government should not be in the business of "protecting" adults from themselves.
