gruesome images on cigarette packs

I'm glad I don't smoke. I tried it like almost 20 years ago, I was like 16 at the time. First couple "felt" cool, got a little high from it even (was probably nausea), then I thought I was really cool, I smoked 2 back to back. That was it for me. Never again had I smoked tobacco, (not including blunts...) Which I eventually quit smoking as well too.

that's gruesome? i don't want to live to be 100...
That's the part the anti-smokers don't like to talk about. They say that smoking knocks 10 years off your life expectancy. Well, it's the ten years you're going to be spending bedridden, hooked up to a machine with tubes, and wearing diapers. As far as I'm concerned, you can have them!

You guys think this will actually prevent people from smoking?I think it could work.
Lost my first wife, mother, father to tobacco. My mother was on oxygen and smoked until at the doctors office saw someone smoking through their trach and coughing up out the trach. So what ever it takes to gross you out enough to stop. Is there a smokers prayer: Help me over come this addiction before it kills me?

The people I see hooked up are due to smoking tobacco? So where is your logic? My father's lung cancer metastasized on his spine so you can guess how long he lasted!

Only I have my life experience" everyone can say that. So what would it take for you to stop snorting Draino? The fact that you no longer had a nose? My father stopped after his lung was removed but it was too late.

Nicotine is a vasio constrictor. To release heat the blood vessels dialate and move to the surface. Sounds like a drug reaction to me. But then my last drug reaction was 5 days in hospital valium and grapefruit! I was gone for 5 days quite a trip.

and I'm in my early 20's

my hands have matched the rest of my skin color since I quit.
Sounds like a good enough reason to me! Could have been something else < devils advocate: but glad it works for you! I believe I should not be exposed to second hand smoke: you can smoke you just can not exhale. But that IS the out come of that addiction.

While it's true that everybody does know, I don't think the youth is fully aware of the consequences of what they are doing. The reason people continue to smoke is because the amount of nicotine (the addictive substance in cigarettes) is increased exponentially each year. Why would they do this? To keep smokers from quitting and get the young people hooked a little easier I'd say.

Have you ever seen the video of the little boy smoking in Indonesia? 25% of children between the age of 3 and 15 have smoked cigarettes. 3 years old!!! Indonesia is a prime example of what happens when tobacco takes over. The whole village is plastered with cigarette posters and ads.

I wonder if anyone actually believes that....

I like the idea, it's a daily reminder every time you go for a smoke of what you're doing to yourself.

The thing is people don`t use tobacco wisely. I liked about 4 a day and they always got me a little dizzy and a little relaxed. Smoked up to 15 at most I think but that was horrible. But people smoking 2-4 packs.... Its like a tic or something, or using your lungs as some form of stressball activitiy. Thats not even tobacco ingestion, its plain silly.

Also I never could understand how people smoked pre rolled cigarettes, they are horrible. Fine if your binge drinking though :)

Moral of the story is anything over half a packet a day is plain crazy and in my terms "not the way you should smoke". So before shooting down smoking about how it fucks people up bare in mind they are lighting up just for the hell of it constantly, becase they have that 5 minutes and its pre rolled and available.

Believe it? There are actually people who have studied it.

The ultimate irony is that while an unhealthy life is bad for the individual in that they die early, it's good for society because smoking and obesity do not incur the same long term health care costs that things like alzheimers, elderly dementia, or strokes do.

This is not advocating that we all smoke three packs a day, and eat big macs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It does however point an incriminating finger at people who have once again used spurious societal costs and other forms of fuzzy math to legislate in their own intolerance.

You want us to live healthier? Fine. Lead us by example. Show us how good things can be if we cut out the cigarettes and the all you can eat night at Sizzler. DO NOT think you can succeed by lying to us or intimidating us into doing what you want.

Yeah I agree Prof. Gromore.

Just being alive is bad for you because its shortening your life! Give me a break health nazis!

Just plain old boring government intimidation does nothing. I think this is a mighty clever advert though :)

What about children who have been affected by second-hand smoke and currently have respiratory problems? The 10 years you are going to spend "bed-ridden" at the end of your life will more likely be a result of your smoking than anything else.

Apart from the fact I was badgering my grandma to quit, the smell, the health problems and the harshness on my throat, you know what made me just decide to quit one day?

...Thought about the amount of time and money I could have spent on weed.

I know but young people are known to not care about their health. I quit cigs because they are stupid, its not about health. I took plenty of drugs and binge drank often, I`m like 21 who gives a shit :D You can bring me the "health bill" when I`m done having fun lol Its not about regretting it in the end either becuase saying that hardly works too :D

If anything stops people from smoking its the price, cough/dry throat and smell which is backed up by the idea of the long term risks. Its unnecessary to slam pictures whcih look straight out of rotten.com on packets, thats just plain unfair. Fuck sake, smokers pay shitloads of tax, forced to smoke outside and not in bus stops, constantly nagged by health nazis and finally have to stare at somebodys great idea of a deterrent.

And they still smoke, everyone in the street has a fag in their hand lol All corners still full of dog-ends and smoking areas of pubs/clubs are full. The pictures on the packs were mainly a good laugh for me lol

(And if a parent wants to smoke around their child thats their choice. You can only blame the substance so much)

Completely agree in every way. Another reason I never smoked standing with people labelled Smokers (aka the victimised chainsmoking spitting scavengers). If they finished and everyone else was still smoking they'd just light another even if they didn't want it.

I only ever smoked golden virginia rollups too, straights smell and taste aweful and they're full of all kinds of crap.

I'm rolling cigarettes for my grandmother to stop her buying and smoking straights.

I keep it under a half a pack a day, and just barely have any congestion. When I smoked a full pack or more a day I coughed up black shit. Not good.

But yeah, it's a waste of money and doesn't get you high

Golden virginia is the best! No more for me anymore though lol

Next time I decide to buy a bag of weed I`m gonna spend that £4 tobacco money on a pipe instead :)

And I tried so hard to get my mom tosmoke rollups. Shes told me they don`t look professional at work so I bought her a rollup holder, filled it up a few times and that was a success! Chances are if your gran has the money she`ll keep on with the straights though lol

Yeah obijohn thats sensible and the less you smoke the more you enjoy. Though your gonna have to quit one day so just keep that in mind :)

I'm sure the health bill would eventually arrive if you continued to keep smoking. The pictures are more meant to keep people from trying it in the first place than getting people who they already have addicted to quit. The price doesn't deter smokers either. My dad has smoked since he was 14. We were always poor but not too poor to buy my dads cigarettes. When you're hooked you're hooked. Price doesn't matter. The "cough/dry throat and smell which is backed up" are ALL HEALTH PROBLEMS!!! That's what the labels are warning of.
The reason everybody on the street is walking around with a fag in their hand? Nicotine and successful marketing. Remember Joe Camel? The pro-cigarette CARTOON?! About time they do just the opposite.
I do agree that a child can easily be removed from the vicinity of a smoker though.
