While those on the right accuse us on the left of waging a class war against the wealthy, the truth is, the wealthy have been for years and still are, waging a very destructive war against the middle class and the poor, and they are winning big time.
That's an old trick. If you preemptively accuse the other side of doing something that you are doing, it makes them look less credible when they accuse you of doing it. Makes it look like an "I know you are, but what am I" type complaint.

It's amazing that this same trick works over and over again. They have been waging this class war since Reagan but if anyone mentions the ever growing disparity between the top 1% and the rest of us or the fact that the middle class is disappearing, turning into the working poor, they accuse you of waging class warfare, and redistributing the wealth. Anyone who complains about all the country's wealth being transfered to an elite ruling class consisting of less than 1000 people is labeled a communist/socialist/marxist/nazi (which apparently all mean the same thing now).

My concern is really not the top 400, although I do not wish them well, it is the other 150 million idiots that want to accede to their status and are helping get rid of the middle class and expand the poor. What the fuck are they thinking? Do they actually think they have a snowballs chance in hell of becoming a billionaire?
Yep. They are allowing themselves to be manipulated, sold on a dream they are never actually going to achieve.

The perfect example of this was Joe the Plumber. He wanted the government to cut spending that potentially would benefit him so we could give tax cuts to the rich. He thought that since he'd be a millionaire from his own plumbing company that he could really use those tax cuts. Never mind the fact that he wasn't actually a millionaire. Never mind that he didn't own a plumbing company. Never mind the fact that he wasn't even an actual plumber. He had a dream. It didn't matter that this dream was an extremely improbable snow ball's chance in hell. He was convinced it was happening and voted accordingly.

This isn't the case of one person, poor/middle class republicans all over the country believe in this same dream. It's a mass psychosis plaguing America. The ironic thing about their views are is the way they vote, it actually makes it harder for them to achieve these delusions of grandeur. The policies they favor slow social mobility, insuring the wealthy stay wealthy and working class people stay working class.

Like TopR says "The rich exploit the poor like the CIA has been selling crack. Although occasionally a few people might slip through the crack, the majority never does so lets just leave it at that".

Even if 10% of them made it, that still leaves 135 million wannabees that are voting against themselves.
Compared to Europe, the US has an extremely low rate of social mobility into the upper classes. So it's a very small portion of them moving up into the top 10%. So out of that 150 million, it's likely more than 149 million of them will stay poor.

They just can't see that corporations are not their friends, and would fuck them over in a heartbeat.
Sorry, but this is one of my pet peeves with the left. Corporations are things. They aren't self aware. They are a tool, like a hammer or a computer. They aren't out to get us. Corporations are efficient tools of commerce which is good. They create jobs, distribute money, goods, and services.

It's not the tool, it's the people wielding the tool - AKA - the ultra wealthy. I know that's what you meant, but for some reason I always feel the need to correct people when they say that.

That billionaires don't give one fuck about them or their families, and are trying to get more money out of them and everyone else untill we the people are broks ass.
And they've been extremely successful at doing so for the last 30 years. They are why the middle class is disappearing. They are why unions are being busted. They are why the economy crashed and no one has a job. They are also the reason no one will actually do anything meaningful about illegal immigration. Illegal labor is cheap. Exploiting foreign nations lowers the demand for labor in America, which lowers workers wages across the board.

It is the wannabees that are fucking this country up, a pox on them and all they attain to. I Know a few, and even while they are being destroyed by wall street, the banksters, and the billionaires, they blame it all on Obama, Idiots all.
If it's not Obama it's Mexicans or Black folks. If not them they just pronounce working class people as "lazy" and undeserving of anything except being poor.

The real problem is the redistribution of wealth to the upper class. These constant tax cuts we keep giving to them at the expense of everyone else are literally destroying what the country used to be.

The disproportionate power the upper class is the reason all the American middle class manufacturing jobs. It's the reason we have illegal labor. It's the reason we have debt. It's the reason no one can find a job. It's the reason we have this recession. It's the reason this generation is the first to do worse than their parents. They are stealing the American dream. They are turning this country into a nation of two classes. Soon it will be a 1% class of rich elites, and a 99% class of working poor.

Please show me to the door to the independently wealthy life I am free to move into fluidly.

Perhaps in a perfect world each baby can grow into someone who might be able to reach maximum private wealth but for most of us we face a reduction in the availability of even a $20 and hour job.

so I didn't invent class warfare but I sure know our Tax code clearly defines classes.
Our Politicians defend the Rich as a class.. The Poor are considered a Class.

So who is right?
Is there Class warfare when the landlord kicks out the Medical Cannabis people for smoking pot?
I'd say Class warfare is one of those wars Faulkner points out we have been exposed to so long that we now bare it as normal.
I would say you don't understand what the definition of class is. YOu missed my point. Class.....It's a construct of Engles' Dialectic Materialism. You are talking platitudes which hold no water to the philosophic ideal's of American individualism.

"Please show me to door to the independently wealthy life I am free to move into fluidly."

Are you kidding me!!?? I am a blue-collar working stiff and have been all my life. I started as a penniless teenager and moved my way up from lower class to middle class and finally up to upper-middle class (I use class because this is the context we typically use even though it is flawed) where I am today. That is Fluid! I choose to work hard and apply myself pay my taxes and show up for work everyday and became successful. Now I am working on a Doctorate and I will move up or down the ladder as I please. This, by definition, is not the workings of a class based society. India has a classed society, which is the construct of the State and is now an unwritten construct of culture. I could go on and on but I will end my bloviating here.

Education doesn't always help. My last job was with the State as a Computer Systems Specialist, I was there 15 years (I have worked since I was a kid without a break, I am over 50 now) before being laid off due to "RIF" Reduction in Force...because of budget cuts. I have education, I have experience...what I don't have is another job. Been looking for a year....never been out of work like this my entire life.

I spent my life being frugal and raising my two sons. I have now used most of my savings trying to make it. It had been 15 years since I was on a job hunt and I can tell you...things have changed for the worse. I feel sorry for all the people trying to get started with their lives/careers.... even education isn't the key anymore.

McDonald's may have openings....I could just see myself, little old lady trying to be as fast as the young kids that are my bosses. I will go that route as a last resort...but not happily. And I wouldn't be able to keep my home that I worked all my life for on McDonald wages...even two jobs wouldn't do it. It's bad enough to watch everything you worked for slip away, even worse to be working your ass off and still have it happen.

And yes, when looking for a job...internet is one of those expenses that has to be figured in. The newspaper doesn't cut it anymore.

This comment bothered me.

You should be looking for that door on your own.
Cool quip..

You know I have an odd side where i write data encoders. Not educated nor trained outside of my own efforts.
You are being asked to assume I am a success at it.
So I go to the Data-Compression Groups and start to share myself and my ideas and find that there is a disciplined "Speak" that I am supposed to do and an order I am to adhere to.
So in essence I am aware that those who do not quack right even if they have found the way to one of those doors are not honoured. Not welcomed nor even respected.

So I have found the door and it's annoys people I am even in the Hallway.

That is the reality of the grand "go work for it concept.."

In short no idea or thing is a good idea or thing until it is someone else's.

So what do i do? I see Rings in the binary, I see sets of rings for a given length of binary string and I am considered not worthy to hang out and chat because I have not been in line like they have or didn't finish college.

So where is that door? I take it you are willing to help?

I downsized as much as I could. I moved out of a big house to a tiny one, no car payments (paid off) no excessive bills aside from health insurance (yes, no work, no insurance..and with pre-existing conditions it costs me a fortune) I am a hermit and don't use gas for more than grocery shopping, doc appointments and job interviews. I never eat out, don't pay for cable tv etc. If I hadn't already had my personal garden going, I wouldn't be smoking now either.

I hope you never have to deal with this type of situation, but I dare say it can happen to anyone....I am in the Seattle area and hear that it's not as bad here as a lot of places.....where would you suggest moving to, IF I could afford to do that considering I am not working?

So yeah....keep saving and good luck. It may feel like you are saving a good amount....but if you have to live on it for any length of time, it won't be enough. And then you end up with nothing for your retirement because you had to spend it before you were ready to retire...then you will have to work until you die, if you can find a job!!!!

Just "work the system" like you? I think not, I like to sleep at night. Don't imagine I could eat enough beef or drink enough "alchol" to feel good about being a cheat. You are not just ripping off the government...who do you think supports our government?

I can't read this level of crap anymore.... I am done with this thread. It was a good try OP, see you next time.

we have in this country one of the most corrupt institutions the world has ever known. I refer to the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal reserve banks. The Federal Reserve Board, a Government Board, has cheated the Government of the United States and he people of the United States out of enough money to pay the national debt. The depredations and the iniquities of the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal reserve banks acting together have cost this country enough money to pay the national debt several times over. This evil institution has impoverished and ruined the people of the United States; has bankrupted itself, and has practically bankrupted our Government. It has done this through the misadministration of that law by which the Federal Reserve Board, and through the corrupt practices of the moneyed vultures who control it".

I dont know if I would call it class warfare, but there is a real problem thats been developing for some time now. As corporate earnings have risen over the last decade average wages have been stagnant. Yes, the company is doing well (Im all for that, I own a business), but in many cases the workers are not making any more than they did 2,5 or 10 years ago.

Factor in the rising costs of living and that is a serious problem. Some of it is due to corporate greed at the top end. This doesnt mean the American dream" is dead, it just isnt as attainable as it was in the past. Our system is far from perfect and balanced, but it is what we have.

Someone in a post mentioned Walmart and McDonalds jobs as the answer, that some funny shit there. Try living on $8 an hour for a few months. Yeah its a job, and some $ is better than none; its hardly a living wage for an adult.
I've been there when I was younger, I had to pump gas for a month until I could find a real job. It sucked and without some extra income on the side :leaf: I would have never been able to pay my bills and eat.
I find it hard to believe that Walmart cant afford to pay their help a little bit more than what they do. When someone applies for a full time job they shouldnt be handed instructions on how to apply for state funded health care because the corporate titans health plan is so expensive that the average Walmart employee cant afford it. Im hardly saying they should be giving the corporate vaults away to the employees, but a bit of bigger slice of the pie isnt gonna bankrupt Walmart.

I learned young enough, dont depend on anyone else for an income, work for yourself. The true sucker in life is the man that busts his balls for peanuts while his boss gets fat and drives a Cadillac. Take a risk, bust your ass and reap the rewards of your own labor. If youre going to let someone profit more from your work than you do, thats really your own fault in the end.

At least that way if youre broke theres only 1 person to point the finger at

A Cheat? As if the Government has a right to my (or yours for that matter) property. So if he exercises the law and works his taxes to benefit him as much as possible he's a cheat? The Government, through threat of Violence/Murder, has stolen his money at gun point and given it to others. How dare he try and protect his property rights.

The pro Statist logic is bizzare and intellectually lazy. It's our property and we live in a country that protect property rights. Nobody can steal or rob you except the Government? I bleed the Beast as much as I can. The more I steal (keep) from the Government the better I sleep and the fatter and happier my children are.
