see how i have them all huddled up in the middle under the light the space is 4x4 with the black and white panda film for reflection actually built the entire tent myself outta 2x2z the light is 8 inches over the plants the further away the less lumens the plants willl get or is that the trade off for covering a larger area
Hey guys, I just started using coco and I'm a bit confused. I am using Atami B'cuzz coco. 15 gallon pots. Before planting I flushed the coco to get out any salts or unwanted nutes, I noticed the runoff to be at 7.0 ph. Now my question is do I have to flush the coco to get the runoff down to 6 or do I just plant and make sure to water at 6.0 ph'd nutes. Also I flushed a few times at a lowered ph and the runoff is still at 7.0. I can break it to go down to 6.0 but it is requiring me to flush extensively with lowered ph to get it at that point. I'm just wondering if that is necessary.

15 gallons!!!! Are you growing trees? That'd be a monster, like, uncontrollable, taller than your ceiling monster.
Run off from coco will not directly represent the pH of the media. To get the media pH take some of the coco from the planter and place it in a cup. Add just a little bit of filtered water. Create a slurry of mostly coco (should look like really wet coffee grinds) then you can test that solution to get a more accurate idea of what is going on in the coco.
With coco the important thing is to use 5.8 solution every time with an excessive amount of run off. I'll aim for 1/2 a gallon to nearly a whole gallon of run off when watering a 3 gallon planter to ensure residual salt is washed out and that the media contents as closely resemble the solution I used as possible.
I know a few people who start feeding at 5.5 (lower end of the hydro spectrum) and then gradually work up to 5.8. Personally, I aim for exactly 5.80 on my meter every time. The more solution you work with the easier it is to fine tune the pH and with planters that size you definitely will be going through a lot of solution.
I suspect you'll veg that plant for 8-10 weeks, and grow each under their own 600w to 1000w lamp... or outdoors. Otherwise you don't need nearly as large a container.
A 3 gallon planter can easily grow a 5 foot tall plant in coco. I think running about 8L of coco is plenty for most moderately sized indoor plants (2 to 3 feet tall at finish).

Thanks for the response Snow, I will try that. I have been going off of the information I found here http://www.igrowhydro.com/InfoSheets/InfoSheet-CocoGrowingMedia.pdf ,where it says you must flush coco until what you put in is whats coming out. You are right, I will be vegging these to be mosters before flowering, I have the space and the hieght. 16 plants under 12 1000 watt MH then switching to HPS. After this experience thou I am definatly switching to smaller pots. Flushing these girls has been a nightmare. This is my first time trying coco and I am having trouble with what I think is salt build up. I flushed them with over 25 gallons of 5.8 ph'd R/O water with clearex added to it and then a little more with 650 ppm of nutes at 5.8 ph. The runoff was 6.3 ph and 600 ppm. They are in there 2nd week of veg.

we need more than a coco sticky there should be a sub forum.. it seems like atleast 35% of growers have switched and more continue to do so every day..

Here we have a Beautiful lady (Nirvana seeds - ICE, non fem )

This is just the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended) but all of my women are starting to show this similar problem.
I realise that i should be posting this on the bud hospital thread but its full of idiots wanting a quick solution, plus it is not COCO specific.
Whereas this thread has shit loads of useful info and was one of the reasons i switched to coco in the first place, il post the rest up when i can.
Now my excuses are over please help me to come up with a solution to this darn yellow fever i have amoungst my lower canopy.
As you will see in the close up leaf pics the leaves are yellow with little brown-ish spots dispersed randomly across the surface.
Now before you shout nute burn! nute burn!! ....i have considered this and about a week ago i started to flush (with 10% nutes, instead of the usual 50%)
It has not done all that much so i thought it could be a deficiency of the cal/mag variety? Trouble is i have no idea and need other peoples opinions

Looked up cyco Dr repair doesnt say its got cal/mag in it, something about chlorosis? might trry it if all else fails.
I live in the UK so would Epsom salts do the trick?
What do we know about epsom salts RIU? id much rather it was nute burn as thats cheaper to fix hehe
