Sunshine systems did make the first UFO, but that was years ago and they definitely arent the only company making good led's.

i have 4 of the sunshine systems glowpanel 45 led lamps, they are okay but nothing super impressive, i was getting them for about $110 each which was worth it at the time, they kick ass for only 28 watts imho, have 2 supplementing in flower and 2 in my clone/sprout/baby cabinet
i have never used their ufo or any other ufo, i don't dig the ufo form factor and prefer straight lines over circles, silly right? it's just about making them fit with the existing stuff...

From my personal experience, I can stand firm next to the fact that my buds started under 400W HiD, and kept there as opposed to my buds started under my 90w 5 Band 3 Spectrum Illuminator, are clearly NOT the same size. If u search this thread i posted some pics of my observations.
Granted there are a lot of factors that could come into play, and cause differences. However the only difference for my plant was the light and where it was place over my scrog.
in conclusion I would need a minimum of x2 90W UFO's just to "Optimally" cover a 1Mx1M canopy. And jsut because it can now be covered, we have to worry about penetration. Those LED's don't penetrate that deeply if at all. Another thing to consider with the UFO is the effective coverage area. I found that right under my LED things were vegging at a great pace. but the outskirts of the plant were hurting, which was another factor as to why i supplemented this grow with the HiD, which had been retired upon the arrival of the UFO.
I'll vegg and supplements with low wattage UFO's. Maybe keep mothers.

They probably buy bulk leds from any deal they find and mix them all together.From what I've gathered from others experiences around the web; Some LED light assemblies are decent but not enough to beat HID. There is one guy who is doing some research right now and has apparently managed to yield over 90 grams with 60 watts. He funds his research by heavily advertising some cutting tool.
While he's not being very scientific about his research (control groups and detailed measurement) he is getting good results on the cheap. It sucks that there aren't really any good sources of CREE LEDs that aren't out of stock or not available to U.S.A. Just assembled crap. 
I'll have to use the less efficient lumilux in my box. byeoh man i shouldnt spoke when im' high

ups finally got here with my bulb its a monstrosity and im sad about it already feel like i wasted my money but i will give it a day or two before i return it. Or try anyways.... Fuck man look at my pics in my thread really doesnt seem that bright. Is it just because of the difference in spectrum? its been a while since i had bulbs in this spectrum. It just seems like the cfl's i had in there before i brighter but theres just no way right? Is the blue spectrum just softer on my eyes? seems more shadowy in my box now i think maybe these wide angle bulbs are not right for growing application. Viagro how did yours work footprint wise for you and how close did you keep it. The metal parts on mine are hot as hell but the bulb is not any hotter than a single 23w cfl. Doesnt seem very intense for light either. So tell me what you think of the pictures bright or not so bright =( im slightly annoyed at spending 75 bucks and feeling like i was better off with my bullshit free cfl's that came with these bullshit ass house lamps i bought...

Give it a chance, Kapt. My light lit up my entryway and all the plants went wild. It was too much for my little tent, but it probably would've been fine in a bigger tent. I have a little 15w induction bulb in my tent with my Kessil and I'm seeing good response in the plants I'm vegging. I wouldn't use CFLs unless I absolutely had to.

Don't worry about how "bright" your light is - you is not a vegetable ... although sometimes you may think you are.
"Bright" is how your eyes see the light, plants don't have eyes.
My Magenta Kessil lights seem "brighter" than my Purple Kessil lights, same wattage different spectrums - human eyes are not a reliable way to measure anything.

I'm glad that I invested in the Kessil lights - certainly no disappointments here.
They fit my grow space perfectly, the Magenta produce (so far) nice very dense buds (despite me generally fucking up the grow) and the ladies simply love the Purple during vegging.
I was one of the "early" Kessil buyers before the price started dropping, and I am still happy with what I got for what I paid.
I bought one Magents, loved it so much I bought a second - then followed up with 2 Purples.
I don't use any other lighting except for a single 23w CFL which I use for germinating and cloning.

It just means that the blackstar just uses more power.
Kessil lights are nothing like a blackstar, which is just another panel of generic LEDs - may be better than other panels, may not be (I don't know).
Kessil lights are designed specifically for horticulture - they are not made from automotive grade (CREE) LEDs, they are not made from traffic light LEDs, their LED array is designed for one purpose and that purpose is to make Kessil lights.
Not having a blackstar for comparison, I can't compare one with the other.
I can say that I bought lights designed and manufactured (not just assembled) for horticulture and I wouldn't trade them in for a blackstar or any other panel type assembly of generic LEDs.
Kessil lights are low wattage but are designed to have a small footprint and great penetration.
I suppose I do have an opinion about which is better.

I will buy kessil when the price levels off, hopfully well under $200.
In the meantime I have experimented with generic chinese and blackstar LED panels. While I have great interest in the technology and efficiency purported by kessil I intuitively have to believe the better panels still give more bang for the buck, particularly with grows over a square meter in size. Other than that statement anything I surmise about kessil is just hypothetical until I run the them. What i will say is that the better panels of 200 W and above can produce superior buds, produce very little heat and are a viable alternative to HID for me.
The kessil advantage as outlined by their web presentations are seductive but slightly flawed. Regardless of the efficient use of electricity,specific spectra and optics the Kessils do not generate a huge vollume of photons.
On top of that the lens that allows penetration may cause burning if placed closer than 12 to 18" from the canopy. I look forward to the evolution of our light sources.

The Blackstar 240w doesn't use 240w. Put a meter on it and get back to me.
It's an apples to oranges comparison, anyway. All things aren't equal in terms of the nature of the lightstream, beam angles, etc.
People are constantly making assumptions about LED tech, without a good grasp of the facts. We keep going 'round in circles here.
What is your plant to light ratio? Looks like it would be tough getting two plants under one light during flower
