Hi ya

Ok i had a tip from Pieter Klaassen (horticulturist at Canna), He said that introducing a roll of carpet to your indoor grow durin the flower period can cause positive stress on them and induce THC production in the later stages ...it gives off a gas when warm that plants dont like ...makes them get on with the job so it can die .

Also talked about haveing a bag of picked leaves that are breaking down in the room also promotes positive stress that tells the plant to produce more THC as its getting close to dieing .

Anyone herd this ... tryed this ?

Well it comes from one of Canna's main men ...and its not like hes promoting anything Canna related ... just a couple of tips :)

Not tryed the carpet yet ... but i have set up a bag of old pruned leaves in my room ( open of course ) ..... and i did notice that my plants started to develop frost a bit sooner .... and that lower pistils look like they have matured faster than my prior grow .

Im looking into it now to see if i can post any science on it :)

What is Ethylene Gas?
Ethylene gas (C2H4) is a natural growth
hormone that is produced by plant tissue as
well as the combustion of synthetic materials.
It is the only member of its class and has the
simplest structure of all plant growth
substances.
Its impact on the postharvest industry is
tremendous because it is active at very low
concentrations and effects plants in so many
different ways. Ethylene is involved in a
plant’s growth process from seed germination
to its eventual death.
Unlike most plant hormone compounds,
ethylene is a gaseous hormone. Even
moderately high concentrations of the gas
cannot be seen or smelled, making it
impossible to detect without mechanical
measuring devices.
Ethylene is not harmful or toxic to humans,
however, at extremely high concentrations it
is combustible.
Natural law is a powerful force. Ethylene gas
has a job to do which cannot be reversed, no
matter how hard one tries. That job is to help
a plant through the natural process of growth
and dying.

Totally side note, I was thinking about using growth horomones such as ethylene, gibberellins, to stimulate flower production etc. but I don't know if has been done on marijuana...

i don't get the part about the decaying leaves. is the idea to let the plant know what's coming to her so she does her thing faster? like a threat lol. i've honesty never heard of the carpet thing but i have always hated the smell. it would be nice if the wretched smell had a purpose in a grow, but i usually keep weird smelling shit out of my grow area. i'll be staying tuned for more info.

great info... how does that help with a roll of carpet?
It's something to do with the gas given off by the synthetic material , The plant's reaction to it is stress , The stress causes a chemical reaction in the plant that triggers the release of more THC as it feels it needs to get pollinated as soon as possible .

So you kind of tricking the plant into thinking its in danger or the conditions are not good for it ... and this makes it weep more juice to give it a greater chance of catching pollin .

Bottom like is , The plant is coded to do one thing ...and thats reproduce ... so by causing a bit of " Possitive stress " ( thats "possitive" for us as we want more THC ) it scares the plant into increaseing its chances of reproduction .

People also use other positive stressing methods ...like... Giveing no light for 46 hours at the end of flower cycle .... or UVB lighting that causes stress on the plant .

pretty clever really :)

Yup thats exactley it ... its like a threat to the plant and it goes into overdrive in order to do what its coded to do .... the only thing the plant dont know is .... she has no males around busting pollin .... so she gets nothing to land on her sticky juice :)... its getting a bit pornographic now :P

I just roll one up and smoke it in front of them to let them know whats coming!

I honestly think its open season on what we experiment with ...Our goal is to get healthy strong plants with more buds and high THC counts , we understand a bit of how a plant works ... but if we can find things that push the right buttons we get more control over what we want and what we get in the end :)

Try it ....document it .... you just never know :)

I wonder how ethylene gas will effect the flavor, I know that is what they use to ripen green tomatoes at the grocery store but as we all know they taste no where near as good as vine ripened ones. But then again the buds will still be on the "vine" unlike tomatoes at the grocery store. I wonder if you can get ethylene gas and run it of a CO2 controller in your flower room.

Sideshow Bob reminds me of an evil white Crabman (My name is Earl).

Carpet outgassing is pretty serious stuff, new carpet/backings contain the following harmful chemicals.
These chemicals include such known carcinogens as formaldehyde, toluene, benzene, xylene and styrene that can cause respratory distress, hives and other adverse reactions in the human body.

Bingo... Lets look into how safe it is for us ... But i can see it being used as a positive stress :)

Yeah its pretty toxic stuff , I hate the smell of carpet .... So no doubt the gas causes the plant distress to .

I love my plants ....but i also love the idea that we can do things to the plant to make it behave the way we want it to ... after all ... we are god in the growroom :)

I keep a big bag of shake in my mother room and the moms don't hurry up and die from this. Don't use anything that you can't mop, clean and disinfect. Your carpet will be ruined by your grow and it will only promote mold and mildew. All poly gives of a gas when constantly bombarded by high intensity light. That's why when you remove your op you'll see photo impressions left in vinyl floors, carpets etc.

You can just purchase tanks of ethylene gas

http://www.labsafety.com/Ethylene_24529811/?CID=9PP001

40 bucks for the smallest container...I can't imagine you will need much of it, seeing as how a couple of dead leaves seem to have an effect on a grow.
Might be worth it. I def think i will try it out. If im not mistaken, ethylene is an oxidant, which may help push THC to CBD, and moreover, possibly (mere speculation) turn some of the THC non-psychoactive alcohols, into psychoactive THC, without as much curing. I think it may be best administered in a cure, instead of during the grow, It may cause buds to mature early w/o reaching its premium weight. Depends on what you are going for. Brilliant idea however! Hope someone can straighten this whole thing out, cuz I'm just speculating at best.
