Stelth i hope your are not a west ham supporter. My poor Pompey seem to be in a bit of financial shit. There are a few threads on here from electricians helping out. I would post your question there. Its certainly a safety mechanism to stop the heater melting and causing more problems. Your threads are wicked so keep it going.

LOL, nah not really a footy fan tbh :) I watch England when they're on but thats about it! Anyhow I just got back from the hydro store :) I got my thermostat!!! :-P, I'll post pics in a min! am still trying to figure out how OVERIDE the heaters auto shut off! this IS a necessity before I start to plug things in! - STELTHY:leaf:

This is a 'Sunbeam' Anolog Thermostat 70 Quid with all wires etc. The manufacturer has gone into bankrupcy because he put all his savings into making the best quality 'stats' with the best components and left himself short lol, nevermind at least I have 1 and it is a genuine 'SUNBEAM' :)

The red female socket is for the heater/s and the blue is for the cooled air! ie. my chimney fed cpu fan/s, and the center is for a kettle style lead for the mains! The blue and red have 2 double 3-pin UK plug adaptors allowing for mor than just 1 heater and 1 cool air fan!

And here they are connected, I am going to go and open up my fan assisted heater now and see if I can bypass the poxy auto cut-off mechanism, Ill add pics and more details asap, as I am very much in need of having it all installed and set up asap! the night temps suck at the moment and I dont wanna cause my ladies any upset!!, when they look good to please me! Please add any useful tips regarding thermostats, pics and/or thoughts - STELTHY :)

OK I fuckin' did it!!! no help either was propper risky but it worked, I took out the anti fall mechanizm (that was the easy part) then I had to figure out hot to stop the heater from trippin out when it got to hot! I narrowed it down to a 10 amp fuse, cut it out and connected the 2 wires, kept my fingers crossed put it back together and tested it with extreme caution..... on full power smoke came out of it lol, but when adjusted to weak out-put it ran perfectly!!! so have super-glued the switch to medium (weak) power and decided to call it a day, am off to get some beers and go to my mates for a smoke :) I will crack on with the rest of it tomoz as soon as I awake - STELTHY

Stelthy that all looks great. My only advice is that i would run the heater when you are home to begin with in case there are any issues. You look like you know exactly what you are doing though.

yeah man I will do to begin with! the ladies night is our day so that's not a problem :) I did it that way so electric was cheaper through our night, and since its off during our day, it all saves money :) On this particular thing I honestly had no idea, I mean I knew how to 'hijack' the power, so the anti fall buton didn't trip. But the bypassing of the heater auto shut off (when the unit over heats) was more than a little confusing, good judgement eh?!! pretty lucky ( and dangerous) glad I wont have to do that again in a hurry :) - STELTHY:leaf:

I also have a fire alarm inside at the top of my grow cupboard, so if the thing goes up for whatever reason I/we have a fighting chance! QUESTION'S :- I would like to know which fire extinguisher to go for? If I need it to put out electrical and wood fires! would I need to 1 for each kind of fire? or 1 that would cater for both?? All answers would be greatly received and of life saving quality BIG REP (for accurate good answers) !!! - STELTHY

Hi dude, Change of plan! the fan heater is way to noisey, so I have gone out today and bought a 2ft 120w bar heater, (no moving parts = no noise), I suppose other viewers may still be able to utilize my DIY fan heater and ducting setup, Well thats a bummer lol, never mind I will keep going with this thread and just install the bar heater into the thermostat instead :) I will add more pics @ some point soon! ps how do I put a link to this page from my other one?? - STELTHY :leaf:

Yeah it was a bit sketchy, it did work but it could of so easily gone wrong lol! I wouldn't advise anyone do that. I was desperate, n desperate times calls for desperate measures... My latest idea with the bar heater is much better! and compact! I covered the 4" hole in the top where the fans ducting was with multiple layers of silver tape just until i can repair it in a better long term kind of way! but the bar has been installed and I am just off to B&Q for some 3-core wire and some speaker wire to complete my Thermostat install, pics and info updated soon! - STELTHY:leaf:

Hello again, luckily for me the hydro dude did come over! I am thinking I am right in believing, that the heater needs to be placed horizontaly at the bottom and not on the vert at the side Iam also planning to put the thermostat lower down behind the canopy, I have 2 stats to test... hopefully things will work out this time :) I will add more pics when I believe the setup to be working exact! - STELTHY

A good cheap idea, is to run the lights on a night. This keeps the temps up and have air from the outside room to warm during the day (normally some central heating is on).

Another benefit is no choppers.
