My self diagnosed insomnia is brought on by myself actually. I try to go to bed at night, but it takes me HOURS to actually get to sleep. My mind doesn't shut off/up. I think about everything, memories bad and good. Scenario's that might possibly happen. Or someone I love or hate dying. When I tell my mind to shut up, it doesn't listen. It just keeps going. I know it sounds really weird. But I will literally lay in bed for about 4 hours before I can actually sleep. It's terrible. I haven't slept well in.....years. I have nightmares, that are so bad, and I have become so used to them that some of them don't even scare me anymore.

that's how it is.

Marijuana helps me sleep so well though. Always does. Thankfully.
That's the same for me!
A lot of the times I will just sit in bed staring at nothing for hours because I think about everything, or I will finally fall asleep and wake up 20 minutes later to check on something and then can't get back to sleep.
A lot of times I'll finally fall asleep around 3 or 4 and then have to wake up at 7:30 for class.
It's a good time...

ditto, and weed helps put me to sleep but it also keeps me up...I scheme about new set ups and what not while I should be trying to sleep. I hate when th mind won't shut off......frustrating to say the least

figured we could use are own thread. i have RLS. so they say. i think it might be nerve damage in my back. i've had a few brutal falls on the tail bone. now when i sit for more than a few minutes i get bad back pains. at night these pains travel from my lower back and shoot out throughout my body. then there's the itching and twitching. i'll be awaken, just as i slip into sleep, by the smallest most irritating itch on my earlobe. WTF? then i start to drift off again and my foot starts to hurt so i have to move it. then my eyebrow itches....... could be residuals from my meth days. they have put my on severals meds including clonipin. i prefer the pot. it has the least side effects and provides the most reliable relief for me. :peace:
I too have RLS fdd, and I believe it IS an unwanted side effect of (past extensive) meth use. It takes me forever to get to sleep at night, then when I do I am woke up by my leg twitching or jerking uncontrollably. Sometimes I wake myself up at night with my foot shaking at 100 miles an hour, it's really aggrivating. The best solution I have found for this (w/o the use of hard prescription drugs such as Xanax or Valium), is 4 Nyquil capsules and a big fat doobie about an hour before I am ready to go to bed. Then when I go to bed I have to put the TV on something like The History Channel to keep my mind occupied, otherwise it's all over the place and there's NO WAY I'm fallin asleep.

This is why they really need to take the legalization of medical marijuana seriously, guys like you have some definite mediacl issues and instead they are talking hard core prescription drugs....not to make light of your situation, but you need something to help you it's only fair in my eyes. Who knows how much damage these prescription drugs do....

Thats great Fdd. I think thats a big mistake I make is that I get up too soon instead of trying to go back to sleep. Then i stay up for half the night only getting a possible few hours sleep BUT I refure to take sleeping pills.
i won last night. it woke me at 3:30 am. i had to go pee. i laid back down and almost got right back up. i felt wide awake. i tossed and turned for about 20 mins. next thing i know it's 8 am. finally a good nights sleep.

Ok I know my insomnia is NOT from past meth use and I do not have RLS but I have found that getting one of those air purifiers works great as a distraction. (Seriously)
I have one in the bedroom and it almost sounds like ocean waves.

Normally I HATE ear plugs but I found some that are so soft and comfortable, you forget that they are there.

We just picked up my dogs ashes this afternoon and I came back and slept 2 hours solid. I woke up in the same position as I was when I fell asleep, which is seldom.

Sometimes when things get really bad I will take a Nytol.
Has anyone ever tried the all natural Nytol. It is made from 100% Valerian Extract which is a very bitter herb used for insomnia. It TASTES GROSS!!!

The thing that surprises me the most is that Nytol has a patent on it!!!!!

How did they do that?

Its 100% valerian Extract. I didn't know they could patent a herb!!!!

Anyone got any ideas how they did that? There is nothing else added.

I do something similar, since I was a baby I have slept with a humidifier, not one of those new fangled ones but one of the old style ones you get at the pharmacy for like 20-30USD, it makes a nice soothing sound and it also is good in this time of the year...heat dries us out you know and where I live we need the heat on...lol.

OMG Bongspit!!!! Thats brutal. I have known other people have bad motorcycle accidents.
I broke one in my vertabrae when I was a kid in 1976 and they just never heal properly. I always have problems with it and thats just one. Gosh to have 3 broke in a row much be awful.
Gosh Bongspit. I am so sorry to hear this.
:?
sleep? I broke my neck 10 years ago racing motorcycles and now have c-3-4-5 vertabrae fused with awire cage holding everything together. I have tried ambien and it's ok I guess. But my doctor will only give me like 15 at one time, he says do not take them every night, only take them when you can't sleep(dumbass).:?

Yes. That would be the same type of idea. It sort of muffles all other sounds. Thanks for the humidifier reminder. I have to get mine on also.

They probably patented the extraction process.

And I fell asleep at on the dentist chair,... again. So embarrassing:neutral:.

I suffer from severe insomnia, and very lucid dreams. While I am working on controlling the dreams I think it will get better and I am starting to figure out how to do it and I think I am starting to have some fun with it. But try some Melatonin. It is a natural herb and your body also makes it naturally, I just dont think I make enough. The supplement seems to be really helping me. Just do your research on what type and brands to get, some are not what they are all hyped up to be, especially the bovine derivatives.

Im so glad you started this thread fdd. Its good to know your not the only one rolling around in your bed trying to get some damn sleep. I have the government to blame for my insomnia. I was prescribed with ritilan at age 5 and took them until i was 16. I was also on 3 other prescription drugs. They said when i came off them i may have sleeping problems, turns out its permanent.
