We're already pretty gung-ho on protecting the borders, yet millions of people still try to make it in each year (although it's down with the recession) and many succeed. This is one of the reasons why microsoft and many other US companies have research campuses in beijing and bangalore. So before we start to talk about cracking down on undocumented immigrants, let's talk about getting some kind of guest worker program and automatic green cards for anyone who has an advanced degree in science, medicine or engineering...

Also, do you really want the federal government or your state to be checking documents and rounding people up like the gestapo?

You didn't tell me why we shouldn't reform immigration altogether instead you say "sounds nice but it's all smoke and mirrors...deport the illegals, they're illegal, it's that simple". And you didn't tell me whether you think it's ok for federal and state governments to start checking IDs and start rounding up people for internment and deportation. Because that's what it would take....basically a police state.

While it may have been an effective deterrent for illegal immigrants,I have to question how this law will be carried out.Will they be treated with dignity and respect,and sent directly to their country of origin?Or will they languish in a jail cell for months at the expense of taxpayers before they are deported?

Some people do call this racist, but I believe that if you're going to become a citizen of any country, you should learn to read and write in its native official language. If I became a citizen of France, for example, its my duty to learn to speak and write fluent French.

Just this month, my state has voted and passed a law that ALL driver's license exams will be printed in English, and only English, and no other language. We have been called racist for doing this, but the fact is that ALL of our road signs are in English only. If you want to drive in Oklahoma, you must read and write English. Really simple.

By the way, Obama does not like any of this.
