There's no party, I doubt even any at least somewhat sane person, in NL and most of the EU that isn't "critical of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians". The leaders of the labor/green left coalition I mentioned do not disagree with Bernie and are at least as critical. For the more extreme left potential voters they need, that's not enough, they "also" not just with poor timing explain but justify the actions of Hamas. That's not the same as being critical of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians. Bernie would probably say the same things as he does now, and know when, and when not.

The terrorist attack was a "made for TV" atrocity turned into spectacle, its purpose, if such things can have any, was to motivate Israel to action and with the loss of such numbers in a country the size of Israel they will get the desired response, be careful of what you wish for though. If it happened in America, it would be the equivalent of 50,000 people killed and kidnapped, what do you think America's response would be? They went nuts for over 20 years over 3,000 victims and a made for TV spectacle on 911.

I saw something on reddit that pointed out this situation is the best way to explain to young people what 9/11 was like. Thought that was reasonably accurate.

Some people got treated very badly by a much more powerful country they could never fight back against, a terrorist group forms within the oppressed people and lashes out, then the oppressed people as a whole get glassed.
