Bernie on my TV again... Nov 22 elections in NL, so a book tour with as bonus some soft meddling from a socialist left US senator is welcome. Make's US look good along the way too, less divided, more normal. Not speaking for myself, just a common response I see/hear.
Lubach: "The funny thing is, Trump calls you a socialist"
Bernie: "Among other things"
Lubach: "But in the Netherlands we wouldn't even consider you extremely... left. You would be some low-key Frans Timmermans*"
Lubach: "And Obama wouldn't even be left, he'd be a member of the VVD [neoliberal ruling rightwing that provided PM for 13 years, making the rich richer and the poor poorer]."
Lubach: "It's like it shifted"
Cheap shot at Trump's lack of intelligence if you're into that sort of thing, the cheap part I mean:
Timmermans is a likely candidate to become our next PM and who I had in mind when I said in previous post Bernie would do well here. The emo climate guy from the EU, labor party, but they teamed up with green-left to try and beat the neoliberals. Bernie isn't socialist/left enough to be a member of the Socialist Party we got too. Given it will be a close race it's a real possibility Hamas's actions and Israel's reactions will prevent NL from swinging back to left (from center). Some of the more extreme left voters as well as voters with a muslim background the new left coalition needs to become the largest party (and thus provide PM) are let's say pro-Palestine and don't share the notion of the party leaders, including Timmermans, regarding Israel's right to defend itself.
