I think ya could make those carboard (foamboard) drones last a few hours with a big enough RC petrol engine and they could reach Moscow with 4 kg of HE when cat launched from Ukraine. Imagine a few hundred of them, launched by ten crews at a drone every couple of minutes, programmed to orbit the launch site until enough are flying then send the signal that sends them on their way as a group. Cover some with aluminum tape to act as decoys to distract the defenses. Reinforce the nose or make it from plastic to mount the engine on and rubber mount it if ya gotta, fuel is from a bladder, like an IV bag on the CG. Worth the effort to experiment a bit I think and perhaps some of them could be extended range petrol driven, they are single use after all and petrol engines of that size cost more, but not that much more for an engine that only has to last for several hours. Say a budget of a $1000 a drone for a Ukrainian made version of the carboard drone that can use either electric propulsion or petrol for the extended range version. Each of those transports was worth $50 million and was certainly worth a $10K beaver. These cardboard drones should make it impossible to keep aviation in Crimea or close to Ukraine with a bit of extra range. Helicopters were an issue, and this will drive them back for sure, they have to park them somewhere at night and the sky has many eyes and most can see in the dark too.

Gas engines use a tap off of the muffler to pressurize the fuel tank. I doubt the planes have the ability to program in a flight path but who knows?

Some do, but these days they make very small electric fuel pumps. They could even adapt a cheap electric blower for a four-cylinder engine to a two cylinder, change the fuel and run the shit out of it for a few hours, but cheap and simple is the way to go me thinks. I just like the idea of some of those flat pack drones with extended range. Ukraine should look at their own version and probably are, something that can reach Moscow, can reach most of Russian aviation around Ukraine with beavers for the further targets. I like the economics of it and the fact that volunteers and amateurs can pull a lot of it off. The Russians dare not keep planes close to Ukraine now, so driving them back even further might not take that many drones or attacks. Ditto for missile systems and launch sites too including AA equipment, perhaps oil targets too. They said they wanted to attack all the Russian electric railway substations around Ukraine too to implead their logistics.

What’s the diagonal bit of open tube for?
