Gun control is coming

I'm perfectly calm. The law won't affect me at all. Guns last a very long time and I have no intention of having any more in my lifetime.

You can call it cherry picking or whatever you want. I quoted a line that even you say is a valid concern yet it changes nothing as far as you are concerned regarding a very poorly written law.

They could find a social media post critical of law enforcement, trump, whatever and decide to refuse you a permit. I'm sure the Sheriff that allowed the Bundy's to take over federal land would scrutinize someone like you and decide that your far left views aligned with BLM, Antifa, etc... and decline to give you a permit. It's a poorly written law and that's all there is to it. Plus half the state has no plans on enforcing it anyway. But if it makes you feel good then get the pom poms out and cheer.

“Given abuses widely documented among law enforcement, [Measure 114] would create an environment ripe for further corruption,” Eliot says. “Police could easily restrict permits to preferred individuals and deny others without oversight to determine if people from particular racial or ethnic groups, religious backgrounds, LGBTQ status or political affiliations were being screened out.”

"This is due to a confluence of factors, from the rise of 3D printed ‘ghost-guns’ to reports of ties by some Oregon law enforcement officials to right-wing groups like Patriot Prayer and the Oath Keepers."

Those reports of ties to right wing groups are 100% accurate.

Go out to Eastern Oregon sporting a BLM or Antifa t-shirt and see how you're welcomed. For that matter go south as well. Start in Medford. Actually go almost anywhere outside the Portland area and you'll get the same reception.
I absolutely agree that Measure 114 does not fix everything that is wrong with our background checking system. What Eliot is saying is a "could". But she's tying existing problems to Measure 114. The courts could rule against Measure 114 and the same problem she's concerned about would still be there.

I'm glad these issues are being discussed. Hopefully this additional attention to a poorly run background checking system will motivate change. Additional funding for background checks are written into Measure 114 through the permitting system. It also closes loopholes in the current laws by extending the period of time allowed to complete background checks and closes the loophole that allows guns to be sold without background checks at gun shows.

Regarding eastern Oregon, I totally agree that there are some idiots out there who would feel that they were justifiably provoked to violence or vandalism if I wore the regalia of a different tribe. I spend a lot of time out there, whitewater rafting. Sometimes I leave my pickup at remote locations while out on the river -- Deschutes County. Malheur County, Harney County, either side of the Snake River. I don't feel the need to draw attention to myself by doing what you say. I wouldn't even put a Biden for prez bumper sticker on my pickup. It's always been that way in the west. But there are idiots everywhere. I lived in Idaho for ten years. Loved the people there but didn't discuss politics. Still have some good friends who I'm sure are MAGA.

San Jose Gun Insurance Law to Take Effect at Start of New Year
In an effort to crack down on gun violence, San Jose gun owners will soon be required to have proof of insurance covering accidents involving their firearms.
The new ordinance goes into effect Jan. 1.

On my way back from Portland the other day I stopped at Seven Feathers to see what that place was all about. Give my back a couple/few hrs to chill, grab a bite to eat, maybe play a few slots and to fuel up.

The slots weren’t all that great, none were the games I like so I didn’t play long and went into the bar. Ordered a burger. While I was waiting for my food got into it with a redhat without his hat on. Conversation started by him talking about that new gun law there. It quickly progressed into his love for Trump and my hating him. The fucker kept getting real excited and loud outbursts towards me. Right as I was finishing my food, he got all excited and said I don’t know what I was talking about, AGAIN. I pushed out from the bar real quick. Got up and said i’d beat your fuckin ass. Talking to me like that. Oh, because you know I’m right he said. Yeah buddy, keep watching your Fox news i said. Paid for my food and left.
That was the very short version lol.

Oh man. From the mexicans at the border trying to get in to bring in all the fentanyl, January 6 was made up bullshit/antifa doing. Trump quickly turned the economy around and so much more. It was incredible the crazy shit that mother fucker said. It was actually 2 guys both around my age. The other guy was pretty chill and could calmly talk about things like i was doing, even though that guy was fucking dumb dumb too.

Pity you couldn't find some common ground. Freedom is one way to do that, politics not so much...
